Local Notes:

  • Softball: Union County 13 – Clinton 1… Yesterday morning I mentioned to you that the Red Devil softball team was scheduled to host the Union County Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night but that I did not get the score in time to give it to you on yesterday’s sport report…. Well I can now tell you that the Red Devils fell for the first time this season as the defending Class-AAAA State champion Yellow jackets took a 13-1 win in 7 innings…. I don’t have any details on the game other than Coach Caughman stated afterwards that the Red Devils had too many errors but they never gave up and battled to the end… The Red Devils return to action tonight as they travel to Spartanburg for a 7:00 pm game with the Vikings.

  • Baseball: Boiling Springs 8 – Laurens 6… last night the Laurens Raider baseball team hosted the Bulldogs of Boiling Springs at Ed Prescott Field… The Bulldogs came right out and put 2 runs on the board in the top of the first inning then added two more in the top of the third to go 4-0 after 2.5 innings of play… In the bottom of the third Tanner Smith drew a walk and Heath Bragg reached on an error… Jalen Bragg was the next batter and he deposited the first pitch he saw over the fence in left field for a three-run homer cutting the Bulldogs lead to 1 (4-3)… The Raiders tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Luke Willis led off with a single and was later driven in on a double by Tanner Smith… The Bulldogs responded by putting 2 runs on the board in the top of the fifth inning to retake the lead 6-4… The Raider got those two runs back to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning walked, tanner Smith reached base by being hit by a pitch and they both scored later as a result of a Bullfrog error… The Bulldogs responded by platting two runs in the top of the seventh inning after 2 were out and then held Laure ns in the bottom of the inning to take the 8-6 win… The Raiders actually outhit the Bulldogs 9-7 but also had one more error than the Bulldogs (4-3)… Heath Bragg led the Raiders at the plate going 3-4… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 3-13-19-LBB-Boiling-Spr… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 3-13-19-LBB-Boiling-Spr-SC

Laurens Academy:

  • Baseball: Shannon Forest 8 – Laurens Academy 0…. Well the Laurens Academy Crusaders were finally able to get their home opener in yesterday after two wet filed postponements as they hosted Shannon Forest… Before the game even started there was one thing I could tell you for sure and that is that the Crusaders were going to win… The reason for that statement is simple because the Crusader is also the mascot for Shannon Forest. … Well unfortunately the “wrong” Crusaders got the win as Shannon Forest took an 8-0 win… The game only went 5 innings and SF scored in every inning but the first…Both teams had 6 hits but SF took advantage of 4 LA errors and a wild pitch or two figured into their scoring… LA got runners as far as third on two occasions but just could not get the clutch hit… Dawson Foster led LA at the plate going 2 for 2… To see the box score on this game, click on the following: 3-13-19-LA-BB-Shannon-Forest.
