Sports Report for Friday, 3-15-2019

PC Notes:

  • WBK: Radford 60 – PC 49… The Lady Blue Hose basketball team continued its participation in the Big South Women’s basketball Tournament last night taking on the #1 seed Radford Highlanders on their home-court… The Highlanders played like a #1 seed as they took a 60-49 win over PC… Tess Santos led the Blue Hose with 13 points… Now for more information on this game, click here… PC ends its season with a 7-24 record while Radford improves to 24-6
  • Men’s Basketball Earns Postseason Bid… The PC men’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT), which starts March 18…  An opponent, date, and game time will be announced by Sunday…. All games are played at campus sites and are all broadcast on the CBS Sports and CBS Sports Digital Networks….   • PC Baseball at Home… The Blue Hose baseball team jumps into Big South plat this weekend as they host Radford in a 3-game series that is scheduled to begin today with first pitch at 3:00 pm.
  • Softball on the Road… The Blue Hose softball team will travel to USC Upstate for a 3-game series this weekend with a doubleheader tomorrow and a single game on Sunday…. First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 1:00 pm.

Local Notes:

CHS:

  • Softball: Clinton 5 – Spartanburg 3… The Red Devil softball team traveled to Spartanburg to take on the Vikings yesterday… Good news for Red Devil fans as Clinton took a 5-3 win over the Vikings… The Red Devils got on the board first as they plated 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning when Hunter Benson tripled driving in Kam Akins… She later scored herself…The Red Devils led 2-1 going into the top of the 4th inning where they again scored 2 more runs… Mackenzie Taylor had an RBI single and later scored as a team mate grounded out… The Vikings plated their last 2 runs in the 5th inning and the Red Devils added an insurance run in the 6th inning when AG Cross had an RBI single driving in Hunter Benson… The Red Devils outhit the Vikings 8-5 with Kam Akins & Grayson Taylor getting 2 hits each… Kam Akins picked up the complete game win striking out 13 and walking only 1….   • Baseball: Gaffney 12 – Clinton 2… The Red Devil baseball team was also on the road last ni8ght as they traveled to Gaffney to take on the Indians… Now all I have at this time is the final score and it is not good news for Red Devil fans as Gaffney took a 12-2 win… If I get more details later I’ll pass them along to you… The Red Devils are scheduled to host Mid-Carolina tonight.

 

LDHS:  

  • All-Region Basketball Honors… Two Raider basketball players were named to the All-Region Teams for this past season… For the lady Raiders Qua Fortson was named to the girls’ team… She averaged about 13 points per game, 4 rebounds per game, 2 steals and 2 assists…  The 9th grader has been on the varsity squad for 3 years…. Christian Anderson was named to the boys’ team… The senior averaged 13.4 points per game, 4.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game… Congratulations to these Raiders!

 

 Laurens Academy:

  • Post-Season Basketball Honors…  The South Carolina Sports Report recently recognized some Laurens Academy Crusader basketball players for their efforts this past season…. Noah Moore was named to their All-State team… His sister Ruthie Moore was named the SCISA Miss basketball Player of the Year… Jennifer Wu was named the SCISA 1A Player of the Year… Blair Quarles was named to the All-State Team and finally Coach Jason Marlett- was named the SCISA -1A Coach of the Year… They will be honored at the HSSR Winter Banquet on April 14th.  The event will be at Seawells Catering in Columbia…. Congratulations to all these Crusaders and Coach Marlett!

Youth Soccer at the Laurens YMCA… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Laurens Family YMCA for youth ages 3-15… The cost is $50 for Y members and $60 for non-members… Registration will close March 31st… For more information call the Y at 984-2626.

 

2019 Raider Baseball Alumni Game and Weekend… This year’s Laurens Raider Alumni Baseball game / Weekend will be held on April 5th and 6th at Ed Prescott Field… Raider baseball alumni will be admitted free to the Raider baseball games on Friday, April 5th when the Raiders host JL Mann in a JV-varsity doubleheader starting at 5:00 pm with the JV game… Those present will be recognized before the varsity game at 7:30… Then on Saturday, April 6th the Alumni Game will start at 11:30 with team assignments and batting practice starting at 10:00 am… Now for more information about this event including how to register for it, cost and other activities planned, click hereRegistration should be back into Coach Patterson by March 22nd… If you have any further questions email Coach Patterson at kjpatterson@laurens55.org or eopatterson@laurens55.org.
