Child Neglect, Multiple Drug Charges

A man and woman from the Gray Court area were charged yesterday with Child Neglect, along with multiple drug charges, following their Sunday arrest by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office. 38-year-old Aaron Christopher Best and 41-year-old Melissa Shanee Hice, both of 1015 Curry’s Lake Road, Gray Court, are charged with Unlawful Neglect of a Child, Distribution of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule 4 Controlled Substance and Simple Possession of Marijuana. Mr. Best was also charged with Receiving Stolen Goods.

Warrants served yesterday cite an investigation of Sheriff’s Deputy Davis and refers to alleged violations of law on Sunday, March 17th.

Best and Hice are accused of placing their minor child at unreasonable risk of harm by smoking methamphetamine and marijuana in the home. Warrants state that He and She had custody and/or charge of the minor child and each is the child’s parent or guardian.

In the Distribution of Meth warrants, both Mr. Best and Ms. Hice are accused of being in possession of 1.2 gram of methamphetamine along with other drug paraphernalia. They’re both accused of having 7 ½ Larazepam Mylan pills, a schedule 4 controlled substance and of having 28 grams or less of marijuana in their possession.

Aaron Best is also accused of having a High Point 9mm pistol that was confirmed to be stolen from Greenville County, knowing at the time or having reason to know the pistol was stolen. It was valued at $200.

Aaron Christopher Best and Melissa Shanee Hice of Curry’s Lake Road remained in the Johnson Detention Center a second night, awaiting bond hearings this morning.
