Sports Report for Monday, 3-25-2019

Local Notes: 

CHS Red Devils:

  • Softball: Clinton 4 – Emerald 0… Last Friday the Red Devil softball team traveled to Greenwood to take on the Emerald Vikings… Good news for Red Devil fans as Clinton took a 4-0 win over Emerald… Clinton got on the board in the top of the 4th inning when Hunter Benson had a solo homer… They scored again in the 5th inning when Kam Akins tripled driving in 2 runs… Their final run came in the 6th when Mackenzie Taylor singled driving in the Red Devils 4th and final run… The Red Devils had 5 hits with Hunter Benson getting two of them… Kam Akins picked up the complete game win giving up just 3 hits while striking out 9 and walking 2… For the game’s box score click on the following: 3-22-19-CSb-Emerald… The Red Devils travel to Woodruff tomorrow.

 

  • Baseball: Emerald 7 – Clinton 4 (10)… While the softball team was in Greenwood taking on Emerald the baseball team was hosting Emerald… I’m afraid the news is not as good as the Red Devils lost a heartbreaker with the Vikings taking a 7-4 win in 10 innings… Clinton jumped out to a 2-0 lead plating 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning as Griffin Fuller drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and another run when Blake Smith tripled and came in on an RBI single by Konnor Richardson… The Vikings tied the game with two runs in the third and the Red Devils retook the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 4-2… Emerald tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the 6th inning and it stayed that way until the top of the 10th inning… In the 10th inning the Vikings used a pair of doubles, a triple and a passed ball to score the winning runs… The Red Devils did get the first two batters on in the bottom of the inning but left them stranded… The Red Devils managed 5 hits in the game with Konnor Richardson and Blake Smith had 2 each… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 3-22-19-CSb-Emerald… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 3-22-19-CBB-Emerald-SC… The Red Devils travel to Broome tonight.

 

LDHS: Raiders:

  • Softball: Laurens 18 – TL Hanna 0… Last Friday the Raider softball team hosted the Yellow Jackets of TL Hanna HS… The Raiders erupted for 8 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning then added t more in the 2nd and went on to take an 18-0 win that by mutual agreement of both coaches only went 3 innings… The Raiders pounded out 18 hits while Rachel Delio and the Raider defense held Hanna to just one hit… Michela Smith led the Raiders at the plate going 4 for 4 with a two-run homer… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 3-22-19-3-LSB-Hanna… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 3-22-19-3-LSB-Hanna-SC… The Raiders return to action tomorrow as they travel to Easley to take on the Green Wave.

 

  • Baseball: Laurens 8 – Westside 4… The Laurens Raider baseball team was also at home as they hosted the Rams of Westside HS… The first 3 innings saw the game go back and forth as there were 3 lead changes in those innings…The Raiders scored a run in the bottom of the 3rd to go up 5-4 and never trailed after that as they went on to take an 8-4 win over the Rams… The Raiders pounded out 12 hits to the Rams 3 (one of the Ram’s hits was a 2-run homer, the first given up by the Raider pitching staff this season)… Jalen Brag led the Raiders offense going 4 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs while scoring twice himself…  Zac Rice and Garett Addy each had 2 hits for the Raiders… Nick Robertson picked up the complete game win for the Raiders Striking out 8 and walking 4 and of the 4 runs given up, only 2 were earned…. Laurens Academy Crusaders:

  • Baseball: WW King 5 – Crusaders 4… The Crusader baseball team traveled to WW King last Friday to take on the Knights and lost a heartbreaker by a score of 5-4… The Knights scored 3 runs in the 5th inning to tie the game and then scored with 2 outs in the 7th inning on a wild pitch to take the walk-off win… The Crusaders scored first putting 2 runs on the board in the 1st inning. When Cal Robertson had an RBI single driving in Dawson Foster and later he scored on an RBI single by Thomas Lowry… The Crusaders added another run in the 3rd inning when Noah Moore singled driving in Kyle Thompson to make it 3-0…. The Knights picked up their first run in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-1… The Crusaders scored their last run in the 5th inning Reles Littleton singled driving in Noah Moore… The Knights then tied the game in the bottom of the inning and went on to score the winning run in the 7th… The Crusaders outhit the Knights 12-4 with Dawson Foster, Cal Robertson, Noah Moore and Thomas Lowry each getting 2 hits… Robertson and Lowry both had a double as one of their 2 hits… Lowry took the loss striking out 9 and walking 4 and only 4 of the Knights runs were earned… For the game’s box score click on the following: 3-22-19-LA-BB-WW-King… The Crusaders are scheduled to travel to Oakbrook today for a 5:00 pm contest.

 

  • Softball: WW King 24 – Crusaders 5… The Crusader softball team also traveled to WW King Friday for only their second game of the season and their second game in 3 years… The Knights outhit the Crusaders 11-3 getting all their hits in the 2nd inning where they used those hits, a smattering of walks, stolen bases and hit batters to put 22 runs on the board and take a 24-5 win over the Crusaders… Gabi Maboni, Blair Quarles and Morgan Marlett all had hits for the Crusaders with Blair Quarles driving in 2 runs…. Youth Soccer at the Laurens YMCA… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Laurens Family YMCA for youth ages 3-15… The cost is $50 for Y members and $60 for non-members… Registration will close March 31st… For more information call the Y at 984-2626.

 

Tickets on Sale for Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame will induct five members into its third class on April 25, 2019… The induction ceremony will be held at The Ridge at Laurens at 6:30pm… Tickets for the induction banquet will go on sale on Monday, March 25 at the Clinton YMCA, Laurens YMCA and Farm Bureau in Laurens… Individual tickets are $25 and include a meal catered by Lee’s BBQ… For more information on the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame, visit www.laurenscountysportshalloffame.com or email bdunlap@golaurens.com… For more information about the members being inducted, current remembers and the hall of fame itself, click here.
