Sports Report for Tuesday, 3-26-2019

PC Notes:

  • MBK: PC 77 – Robert Morris 70… On Sunday the Blue Hose men’s basketball team found themselves trailing by 13 at the half to the Colonials of Robert Morris University on the Colonial home court, but came out of the locker room and outscored the Colonials 46-26 in the second half to take a 77-70 win in second round action of the Tournament… Now for more information on this game, click here… The win propels the Blue Hose into a quarterfinals game tonight at Marshall taking on the Thundering Herd… The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm and you can hear it on the PC Radio Network or watch it live at:… For more information about Marshall, PC and their history against each other going into this game, click here.


  • Baseball: The Blue Hose baseball team hosted the Runnin Bulldogs of Gardner Webb this past weekend and they took 2 out of 3 games from the Bulldogs… The won Friday’s game 6-5 then lost Saturday’s game 5-4… They took the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday by a score of 11-6… That puts PC’s record at 10-14 on the season and 4-2 in Big South play… For more information on each of these games, click on their scores… The Blue Hose return to action tomorrow at 3:00 pm as they host the Wofford Terriers… PC has already defeated Wofford 5-4 earlier in the season… The game can be seen on ESPN+.


  • Softball: The Blue Hose softball team was at home over the weekend also hosting the Hampton Pirates… The news is not as good for them as it was for the baseball team as they lost all three games to the Pirates… They lost both games of a doubleheader on Saturday by scores of 8-4 and 4-2… Hampton then completed the sweep of the Blue Hose by taking a 4-1 win on Sunday… The Blue Hose will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Charleston Southern for a doubleheader… First pitch against the Buccaneers is slated for 2:00 p.m.


Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • Boys Tennis: Clinton 5 – Emerald 1… Last Thursday the Clinton boys tennis team traveled to Greenwood to take on the Emerald Vikings and came home with a 5-1 win to run their record to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in region play… Ike Waldron, Connor Donley, Anders Orr, Hayden Minor and Brandon Campbell all took wins in singles action… For more information on this match, click here.
  • Golf… Also last Thursday the Red Devil golf team hosted Broome and Union County at Lakeside CC… Good news here for Red Devil fans as they took the match shooting a 163 edging out region for Union County by 1 stroke which shot a 164… Broome finished third shooting 182… Phoebe Carlos was the Match Medalist leading Clinton with a 34… For more information on how other Red Devil golfers did, click here.


LDHS: Raiders:

  • Harshaw Signs with Erskine… Last Friday LSHS senior Vanessa Harshaw signed a letter of intent to continue her education and softball career attending Erskine College and playing for the Flying Fleet… She did this in the auxiliary gym at LDHS in from of family, friends, coaches and teammates… Vanessa also ran cross country this year and both her softball coach Michaela Smith and cross country coach Thomas Moore both commented on the fact that she has shown leadership traits on both teams and has been a positive influence on the team…  To see a short video interview done with Vanessa after the signing followed by a few photos taken at the signing, click here… Congratulations to Vanessa!
  • Tennis: TL Hanna 7 – Laurens 0… The young Raider boys tennis team traveled to TL Hanna last Thursday to take on the Yellow Jackets… Hanna usually has a strong tennis team and that would appear to be the case this year as they took a 7-0 win over the Raiders… For more information on this match, click here.
  • Boys Soccer… The Raider boys’ soccer team had 3 matches last week… On Monday they fell to JL Mann 14-0, on Wednesday they fell to Clinton 2-0 and on Thursday they fell to TL Hanna 11-2… Sorry no details available.

Youth Soccer at the Laurens YMCA… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Laurens Family YMCA for youth ages 3-15… The cost is $50 for Y members and $60 for non-members… Registration will close March 31st… For more information call the Y at 984-2626.


Tickets on Sale for Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame will induct five members into its third class on April 25, 2019… The induction ceremony will be held at The Ridge at Laurens at 6:30pm… Tickets for the induction banquet will go on sale on Monday, March 25 at the Clinton YMCA, Laurens YMCA and Farm Bureau in Laurens… Individual tickets are $25 and includes a meal catered by Lee’s BBQ… For more information on the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame, visit or email… For more information about the members being inducted, current remembers and the hall of fame itself, click here.
