Sports Report for Wednesday, 4-3-2019

CHS Red Devils:

  • Boys Soccer: Clinton 4 – Union 0… Catching up with some Red Devil boys’ soccer action last Friday that took place over on the PC soccer Field, the Red Devils took a 4-0 win over Union County HS… Parker Duncan had 3 goals for the Red Devils and Luke Mann got the other goal… For more details on this match, click here.
  • Girls Soccer: Clinton 4 – Union 3… The Lady Red Devil soccer team also took on Union last Friday and the news is good for Red Devil fans as they defeated Union 4-3…. Madison Bagwell had 2 goals while Abby Collins and Reese Lawson each had 1… For more information on this match, click here.

 

LDHS: Raiders:

  • Softball: Laurens 8 – Greenwood 1… The Raider softball team traveled to Greenwood HS last night to take on the Eagles… Now I don’t have as many details as I normally do on the game but I can tell you that the Raiders took an 8-1 win…The Raiders and the Eagles battled in a close game for 6 innings and the Raiders broke the game open in the 7th inning putting 5 runs on the board… Kauree Munyan did homer for the Raiders…. The team is now 10-6 on the season and 9-2 in region play… They will host the Ninety Six Wildcats tonight in a JV-Varsity doubleheader and we do plan on broadcasting the varsity game about 7:30.

 

  • Baseball: JL Mann 4 – Laurens 1… Now while the softball team was in Greenwood the Baseball team traveled to Greenville to take on the Patriots of JL Mann… The Patriots came into the game leading the region with the Raiders right behind hoping to defeat them and move into a tie for the region lead… Well that was not to be as the patriots scored 2 runs in the 4th inning and added another one in the 5th inning to break a 1-1 tie and take a 4-1 win over the Raiders… Neither team really “crushed” the ball last night as the patriots had only 5 hits while the Raiders had only 3… All of the Raider hits were singles while the Patriots had 3 singles and 2 doubles… No Raider had more than 1 hit and Heath Bragg took the loss pitching 4⅓ innings… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 4-2-19-LBB-Mann… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 4-2-19-LBB-Mann-SC…The Raiders will step out of region action tomorrow as they host the Ninety Six Wildcats at Ed Prescott Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm.

  • Braves… The Braves had the night off last night but return to action tonight with the 2nd game of the current 3-game series with the Cubs at Sun Trust Park.
  • Drive… Now for you Greenville Drive fans the wait is almost over as they open their season tomorrow hosting the West Virginia Power at Flour Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm… A very familiar face will don the Drive uniform, as the Boston Red Sox are sending second baseman Dustin Pedroia, a World Series Champion and 2008 American League MVP, to Greenville for a Major League rehab assignment.

Tickets on Sale for Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame will induct five members into its third class on April 25, 2019… The induction ceremony will be held at The Ridge at Laurens at 6:30pm… Tickets for the induction banquet will go on sale on Monday, March 25 at the Clinton YMCA, Laurens YMCA and Farm Bureau in Laurens… Individual tickets are $25 and include a meal catered by Lee’s BBQ… For more information on the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame, visit www.laurenscountysportshalloffame.com or email bdunlap@golaurens.com… For more information about the members being inducted, current remembers and the hall of fame itself, click here.
