Sports Report for Thursday, 4-4-2019

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • Girls Soccer: Clinton 2 – Newberry 0… Last night the Lady Red Devil soccer team traveled to Newberry to take on the Lady Bulldogs… After a scoreless first half, the Red Devils had 2 second half goals as they took a 2-0 win over the Bulldogs… Emma Pinson and Abby Collins both scored a goal late in the match… For more details on this match click here… The team improves to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in region play.

LDHS: Raiders:

  • Softball: Ninety Six 8 – Laurens 3… The Raider softball team played host to the Wildcats of Ninety Six yesterday in non-region action… In varsity action the Wildcats defeated the Raiders by a score of 8-5… The Raiders outhit the Wildcats 11-7 but as it has been the case in recent games the error big struck the Raiders as they committed 7 errors in the game… Of the 8 runs scored by the Wildcats only 3 were earned as Rachel Delio struck out 6 and walked none in the loss… The Wildcats led 5-0 before the Raiders put a single run on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning and continued to score in each of the remaining innings including the 7th where they put 2 runs on the board but just could not climb out of the hole… Octavia Johnson, Kauree Munyan and Rachel Delio led the Raider offense getting 2 hits each…  For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 4-3-19-3-LSB-NinetySix… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 4-3-19-3-LSB-NinetySix-SC… The team returns to action Friday (weather permitting) when they travel to Anderson to take on the Westside Rams.

  • Baseball… The Raider baseball team was scheduled to host the Wildcats of Ninety Sin in varsity action today at 6:00 pm at Ed Prescott Field… With the weather forecast for Friday not looking good Coach Tori Patterson as decided to postpone the game with Ninety Six today and instead host region foe JL Mann today instead of tomorrow… It will be a JV-Varsity doubleheader with the JV game starting at 5:30 and the varsity game about 7:30… I hope you can come out and root the Raiders on as they try to knock off the region leading Patriots but if not we do plan on bringing you the varsity game here on Real Radio 860 and 104.1 WLBG and streaming live on the internet

  • Tennis: Greenwood 7 – Laurens 0… Back on Tuesday the Raider boys’ tennis team hosted Greenwood and unfortunately I have to report that the Eagles took a 7-0 win over the Raiders… The closest the Raiders came to picking up a win was in the #1 doubles match where Murphy Rush and Will Adams lost 5-8 in a pro set match… For more details on the match,  click here.
