Sports Report for Tuesday, 4-9-2019

PC Notes:

  • Baseball… The Blue Hose baseball team had a great weekend as they swept the Bulldogs on UNC-Ashville in a 3-game series in Clinton… On Friday PC took a 4-2 win and did even better on Saturday as they defeated the Bulldogs 6-2The final game on Sunday saw the Blue Hose take a 7-2 win over the Bulldogs to sweep the series…. PC improves to 14-18 on the season and 7-5 in Big South play… The team will travel to Spartanburg tomorrow to take on the Wofford Terriers in a 6:00 pm ballgame.
  • Softball… The Blue Hose softball team has been idle for almost a week now but that ends today as it travels to Rock Hill for a doubleheader with the Winthrop Eagles today and a single game tomorrow.

CHS Red Devils:

  • Tennis: Christ Church 4 – Clinton 2… Last Wednesday the Red Devil boys tennis team hosted Christ Church… The Red Devils fell for the first time this season as the Cavaliers took a 4-2 win… Ike Waldron and Hayden Minor had the wins for the Red Devils… For complete details on this match, click here.
  • Tennis: Clinton 5 – Mid-Carolina 1… The Red Devils got right back on track the next day as they defeated the Mid-Carolina Rebels 5-1 in Clinton… The Red Devils won all the singles matches and fell in the #2 doubles match…. For complete information on this match, click here… The team is now 8-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in region paly and will be back in action today as they host Woodruff (weather permitting) starting at 5:00 pm.
  • Boys Soccer: Clinton 2 – Emerald 0… Last Friday the Red Devils boys’ soccer team hosted the Vikings of Emerald at PC… Good news for Red Devil fans as Clinton took a 2-0 win…  JP Snelgrove and Luke Mahon had the Red Devil’s two goals…  The team is scheduled team is scheduled tom travel to Woodruff today.
  • Girls Soccer: Clinton 2 – Newberry 1… Last Thursday night the Lady Red Devils soccer team traveled to Newberry to take on the Bulldogs and the ride back was probably a nice one as Clinton defeated Newberry 2-0…. Emma Pinson and Abby Collins each had a goal for the Red Devils… For more details on the match click here


LDHS: Raiders

  • Tennis: Laurens 6 – Westside 1… Last Thursday the Raider boys’ tennis team hosted the rams of Westside HS… Good news for Raider fans as they took a 6-1 win over the Rams… For details on this match click here… The team is scheduled to travel to Woodmont today.
  • Golf: Laurens 187 – Westside 206… Last Wednesday the Raider boy’s golf team traveled to Anderson to take in the Westside Rams… The ride home probably seemed shorter than a few days ago as the Raiders took a 187-206 win over the Rams…Collin Harlan was the Match Medalists as he shot a 43….For more details on this match click here.

College Notes:

  • Men’s Basketball Championship: Virginia 85 – Texas Tech 77 (OT)… The Virginia Cavaliers were able to hoist the National Championship trophy above their head last night as they took an 85-77 win in overtime against Texas Tech… For details on the game, click here.

  • Braves 8 – Rockies 6… The Braves are ion the road now and last night they started a series with the Colorado Rockies on a positive note as they defeated the Rockies 8-6… Last year’s NL Rookie of the Year Ronald Acuna Jr. had a long 2-run homer for the Braves in the first inning.
  • Drive… The Greenville Drive had their game with the Augusta GreenJackets in Augusta postponed due to the bad weather moving through the area… They will play a doubleheader today in Augusta to try tom get back on schedule.

Tickets on Sale for Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame will induct five members into its third class on April 25, 2019… The induction ceremony will be held at The Ridge at Laurens at 6:30pm… Tickets for the induction banquet will go on sale on Monday, March 25 at the Clinton YMCA, Laurens YMCA and Farm Bureau in Laurens… Individual tickets are $25 and include a meal catered by Lee’s BBQ… For more information on the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame, visit or email… For more information about the members being inducted, current remembers and the hall of fame itself, click here.


3rd Annual Kick for Kids Kickball Festival… The Bridging the Gap Advocacy organization along with the Laurens Family YMCA and the Laurens School District 55 will be having their 3rd Annual Kick for Kids Kickball Festival at the legendary Sanders Death Valley Football on Park Place off Farley Avenue on Saturday, April 27th… This event is a fundraiser to help promote awareness of bulling, domestic violence and hemophilia… The admission will be $1.00 and in addition to the kickball festival… Concessions will be available that include hotdogs, chips, drinks and Krispy Kreme donuts which will all be for sale… There will also be jump houses, corn hole games and door prizes… If you would like to enter a team (of up to 25) the cost is $50 until April 15th… After that the cost to enter jumps to $75 per team… To enter a team or if you have any questions contact Mr. Calvin Whitmire P.O. Girls Volleyball at the Ridge… The Laurens Recreation Department has begun its 2019 Volleyball registrations. The league is open to any female ages 7-14.  The cost is $60.  The last day to register will be April 24th with the first night of participation being April 29th at 5:30.  All practices and games will be held at The Ridge and will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.  All players must provide their own knee pads.  For more information please visit the Ridge at 301 Exchange Drive or call 681-7275
