CHS Red Devils & LDHS: Raiders

  • Baseball: Laurens 10 – Clinton 2… The Raiders and the Red Devils got together last night at Ed Prescott Field for the second game in their 2 game series and the Raiders took a 10-2 win thus giving them the county championship for this season as they took a 9-1 win earlier this season in Clinton… The Raiders scored twice in the bottom of the first inning on 3 singles, a bunt and a sacrifice fly and never trailed after that… The closest the Red Devils got to the Raiders was in the top of the 3rd inning when they scored their first run to make it 2-1 Raiders but the Raiders responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning and the Red Devils never got that close again… The Raiders only outhit the Red Devils 10-9 but the Raiders got the key hits when needed while the Red Devils did not… The Red Devils were led at the plate by Konnor Richardson who went 3 for 4 with a double… The Raiders were led by Tanner Smith who also went 3 for 4 with a double… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 4-10-19-LBB-Clinton… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 4-10-19-LBB-Clinton-SC… The Red Devils will be back in action today as they head to Woodruff to take on the Wolverines and with 3 region wins left the Red Devils need to win this one to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot… The Raiders were going to host TL Hanna tomorrow but with the weatherman calling for rain tomorrow the game has been moved to 6:30 today at Ed Prescott Field… The Raiders can move into second place in the region with a win over the Yellow Jackets… I hope you can come out and cheer the Raiders on but if you can’t you can catch all the action here on Real Radio 860 and 104.1 WLBG and streaming live on the internet at www.wlbg.com and we will go live just about 6:30.

 

CHS Red Devils:

  • Tennis: Clinton 5 – Woodruff 1… Catching up with the Red Devils boys’ tennis team, back on Tuesday the Red Devils took a 5-1 win over the Woodruff Wolverines at home to make their region record a perfect 7-0… Ike Waldron, Condor Donley, Anders Orr, Hayden Minor, and Brandon Campbell all took wins in singles action… For more details on this match, click here.

 

LDHS: Raiders:

  • Softball: Woodmont 14 – Laurens 6 Yesterday the Raider softball team hosted the Woodmont Wildcats in region action… If I told you that the Raiders outhit the Wildcats 15-12 you might think the game was close and that Laurens might have won… Well that is not the case as Woodmont took a 14-6 win mainly because the Raiders shot themselves in the foot committing 5 costly errors… Only 5 of Woodmont’s 14 runs were earned… Woodmont had 3 big innings which were the third, fourth and fifth where they scored 4 runs in each inning… Cassie Plaia led the Raiders going 4 for 4 with 2 doubles while both Trinity Daniels and Octavia Johnson had 3 hits each…  For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 4-10-19-LSB-Woodmont… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 4-10-19-LSB-Woodmont-SC… Weather permitting the Raiders travel to JL Mann tomorrow for a varsity game at 6:00 pm.

  • Braves…  The Braves had their game with the Rockies postponed yesterday due to bad weather… The will return home tonight to start a 4-game series with the New York Mets
  • Drive: Augusta 9 – Greenville 8… The Greenville Drive lost the final game of their current home stand to the Augusta GreenJackets last night by a score of 9-8… The Drive hit the road for the first time this season with their first stop being in Rome, Ga. to take on the Baby Braves.

Tickets on Sale for Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame will induct five members into its third class on April 25, 2019… The induction ceremony will be held at The Ridge at Laurens at 6:30pm… Tickets for the induction banquet will go on sale on Monday, March 25 at the Clinton YMCA, Laurens YMCA and Farm Bureau in Laurens… Individual tickets are $25 and include a meal catered by Lee’s BBQ… For more information on the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame, visit www.laurenscountysportshalloffame.com or email bdunlap@golaurens.com… For more information about the members being inducted, current remembers and the hall of fame itself, click here.

 

3rd Annual Kick for Kids Kickball Festival… The Bridging the Gap Advocacy organization along with the Laurens Family YMCA and the Laurens School District 55 will be having their 3rd Annual Kick for Kids Kickball Festival at the legendary Sanders Death Valley Football on Park Place off Farley Avenue on Saturday, April 27th… This event is a fundraiser to help promote awareness of bulling, domestic violence and hemophilia… The admission will be $1.00 and in addition to the kickball festival… Concessions will be available that include hotdogs, chips, drinks and Krispy Kreme donuts which will all be for sale… There will also be jump houses, corn hole games and door prizes… If you would like to enter a team (of up to 25) the cost is $50 until April 15th… After that the cost to enter jumps to $75 per team… To enter a team or if you have any questions contact Mr. Calvin Whitmire P.O. Girls Volleyball at the Ridge… The Laurens Recreation Department has begun its 2019 Volleyball registrations. The league is open to any female ages 7-14.  The cost is $60.  The last day to register will be April 24th with the first night of participation being April 29th at 5:30.  All practices and games will be held at The Ridge and will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.  All players must provide their own knee pads.  For more information please visit the Ridge at 301 Exchange Drive or call 681-7275
