Man Charged with Hospital Shooting

SLED arrested a Clinton man yesterday following the early morning shooting at the Laurens County Hospital. 27-year-old Kevin Boyce Patterson of 1080 Fuller Road, Clinton was booked in the Johnson Detention Center late yesterday afternoon, charged with Kidnapping, Attempted Murder and Pointing and Presenting a Firearm at a Person.

In all three warrants, SLED agent Melissa Wallace cites probable cause, a SLED investigation, video surveillance and victim statements in alleging Patterson kidnapped his father at gunpoint as well as shot a hospital police officer with intent to murder him. Warrants state that Kevin Patterson kidnapped his father by dragging him away at gunpoint while at Laurens County Hospital early yesterday morning. He’s accused of forcefully moving his father across the waiting area of the emergency department before releasing him at the door. He’s also accused of pointing a firearm at his father at Laurens County Hospital.

The Attempted Murder warrant states that Kevin Boyce Patterson shot a firearm at a hospital police officer with intent to kill him at the Laurens County Hospital yesterday, with the Officer sustaining a gunshot wound.

We believe Kevin Patterson was released to SLED custody after local treatment for his gunshot injury and that the hospital police officer was being treated in Greenville.

Kevin Boyce Patterson remained in the Johnson Detention Center overnight, awaiting his first court appearance on the three charges.
