Sports Report for Monday, 4-15-2019

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • Softball: Clinton 7 – Mid-Carolina 6… Last Friday the Red Devil softball team hosted the Mid-Carolina Rebels in their last region game of the season… The Red Devils lead 4-1 going into the top of the 5th inning where the Rebels hit the Red Devils with 5 runs to take a 6-4 lead… The Red Devils came back and tied the game scoring 2 runs in the 6th inning… Clinton held the Rebels scoreless in the top of the 7th inning and then in the bottom of the inning Hunter Benson drew a walk to start things off for the Red Devils… Maddi Wood singled and she and Hunter both stole a base to move up to second and third… Anna Grace Cross was drew a walk to load the bases and the next Clinton batter struck out… Then with 2 strikes, Katelyn Baker singled to drive in Benson and win the game in walk off fashion… Both teams had 9 hits and Savannah Campbell was the only Red Devil to have more than 1 hit as she went 2 for 3… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 4-12-19-CSb-Mid-Car… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 4-12-19-CSb-Mid-Car-SC… The Red Devils finish the region schedule with a 5-5 record and will wait to see how other region teams finished to determine whether or not they make the playoff…. They do have two non-region games on the schedule and one of them is today where they travel to Ware Shoals to the on the Hornets.

  • Baseball: Mid-Carolina 8 – Clinton 7… The Red Devil baseball team traveled to Mid-Carolina to take on the Rebels last Friday and according to CHS athletic website lost 8-7… Coach Fortman has yet to post up results to Game Changer but Mid-Carolina has posted the game to their Game Changer account… Base on that I can tell you that Clinton scored 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning and that would be the last time they led in the game as the Rebels tied the game scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the inning… They added 6 more runs in the following innings and going into the top of the 7th led 8-2… In true Red Devil fashion, the team did not give up and scored 5 runs in the 7th and had the tying run thrown out at the plate to stop the rally as Mid-Carolina escaped an 8-7 win… Again based on the Mid-Carolina scoring of the game the Red Devils outhit the Rebels 13-10 with Griffin Fuller going 3 for 4… If and when I get Coach Fortman’s account of the game I’ll give those stats to you as well as the scorebook…. The Red Devils close out their region schedule tomorrow hosting the Newberry Bulldogs.

LDHS: Raiders:

  • Softball: JL Mann 14 – Laurens 4… The Raider softball team traveled up to JL Mann last Friday for a region contest… The Raiders only trailed by one (4-3) going into the bottom of the 4th inning when the Patriots broke the game open scoring 8 runs and then going on to take a 14-4 win in 5 innings… Once again the Raiders had trouble with errors as they had 5 of them in the game with 4 coming in the 4th inning when the Patriots put 8 runs on the board… When all was said and done only 6 of the Patriots 14 runs were earned… The Patriots ended the night with 12 hits while the Raiders had 9… Michela Smith and Kauree Munyan each had 2 hits for the Raiders and one of Munyan’s was a double… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 4-12-19-LSB-Mann… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 4-12-19-LSB-Mann-SC… Unless they make up a game postponed by weather, the Raiders will next see action one week from today when they travel to Ninety Six.
