Addressing the Child Abuse Problem

Laurens City Council this week proclaimed April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Police Chief Chrissie Cofield requested the action at the Tuesday evening council meeting. Chief Cofield told council members,

“Laurens County has seen an estimated 250 documented cases of child abuse and/or neglect since 2018.” She added, “Our children suffer unimaginable trauma from the incident and from the technical procedures afterwards.” Cofield said family structures are devastated, with Child Abuse leading to a lifetime of complications. She said because of this Laurens Police joins Laurens County First Steps asking for the proclamation. Mayor Nathan Senn read the proclamation aloud during the City Council meeting.
