Expanded Court for Food Trucks

Construction work on North Harper just off the Laurens Square recently has been preparing for an expanded area for Food Trucks.  Laurens Main Street Director Jonathan Irick advised Laurens City Council this week that work has been underway on a Food Truck area. He said, “The town has been working really hard on the food truck area just past Verdin’s Too. It is looking really nice. We are preparing to order an 18-foot umbrella and three picnic tables; two regular and one suitable for wheel chair access.”

Jonathan Irick presented council with the policy and rules for the use of the food truck area. These include vendors requirements of obtaining a city business license and making hospitality tax payments, having DHEC certification and permit and to abide by the DHEC regulation. Irick said the food trucks cannot stay overnight so that the washing and cleaning of cooking equipment will be done at their home base.

He said up to four food trucks will be allowed to use the space at a time, with participating vendors placed on a rotation schedule.  The trucks should be set up by 10:45 AM and must stay till 2:30 PM. The rules also allow for evening hours, between 4:30 and 8:00 pm. Blasting music will not be allowed.

Irick told city council that the rules state the vendors must dispose of their own trash, but trash containers will be provided for customers of the food trucks.
