A man and woman from Joanna are charged with Unlawful Neglect of six children. Booked yesterday was 26-year-old Samuel Jahlil Leake of 151 North Marion Street, Joanna. 30-year-old Evelyn Deanna Leake of Magnolia Street, Joanna was delivered to the Johnson Detention Center a week ago, on May 7th, when she was served with three Magistrate’s Court Bench Warrants for 30-day sentences on three traffic charges. Yesterday, Evelyn Leake and “Sammy” Leake were charged with allowing unreasonable risk of harm, affecting a child’s life, physical or mental health or safety, on May 10th. In the six warrants served on both, an investigation of Deputy Hilderbrandt is referenced as indicating that there has not been running water “at the location” since July of 2018 and that there was significant lack of food in the home. Conditions allegedly included human waste in pots outside a child’s room. The two defendants are stated to have had custody of the six children and were guardians for them. Warrants state the children were aged 6, 8, 10, 11, 12 and 15.

Samuel Jahlil Leake is also known as “Ghost” and “Sammy.” He and Evelyn Deanna Leake were to face a bond hearing for their six charges alleging Unlawful Neglect of Children.
