Domestic Assault with Box Cutter Gets 20 Year Sentence

An Abbeville man was sentenced to 20 years in prison yesterday morning after changing his plea to guilty on the day his trial was to begin in connection to a 2018 incident in which he attacked his girlfriend with a box cutter. 8th Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo said 41-year-old Robert Lamont Bryant pleaded guilty to a charge of Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated nature as jury selection was set to begin. Circuit Judge Roger M. Young Sr. then handed down the 20-year prison sentence, the maximum sentence under state law for that offense. Bryant has multiple previous convictions for domestic assaults and had been released from prison only months before committing the box-cutter attack.
