Local Notes:

CHS

  • Spring Football Game… The Red Devils will wrap up their first spring practice under new head coach Corey Fountain tomorrow with a spring game starting at 6:00 pm… I do believe it will be held at the CHS practice field due to the work being done at Wilder Stadium… I’ll try to confirm that between now and then.
  • Winter and Spring Sports Awards… Last week Clinton HS held its Winter and Spring Spirts Awards Ceremony… Now time and space does not to list all of them here but if you click here it will carry you to a list of all the award winners by sport…. I want to congratulate them all but also special congratulations go out to Savanna Campbell and Konnor Richardson who were named the Female and Male Athlete of the Year at CHS… Savannah Campbell is a multi-sport senior who will be headed to Erskine this fall to continue her education and play basketball… Konnor is a rising senior who was the starting quarterback for the Red Devil football team until an injury ended his season but he came back to play basketball and baseball for the Red Devils… He was the baseball team’s MVP and made the All-Region Team… Again congratulations to all the award winners especially Savannah and Konnor!

LDHS Last night the Laurens Raider track teams held their awards banquet at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church… Coach Stevens and the rest of the coaches remarked how proud they were of the core group of student-athletes who came out, practiced and competed hard and continued to improve each week… He also mentioned they would have most all of the members back next season except one notable one I’ll mention in a moment… The team members who won awards last night were:

  • Girls: Raider Spirit Award – Aija Davis, Most Improved Female – Briajah Anderson and Most Outstanding Female – Andrea Choice
  • Boys: Top Sprinter – Chase Gambrel, Top Distance Runner – Evan Prince, Top Field Events – Tyrone Garlington, Newcomer Award – Tye Roberson, Captain Award – Ty Young, Most Improved Male – Travon Grant, Coaches Award – Rodarius Yeargin, Most Outstanding Male – Evan Prince,… Evan Prince also made the All-Region Team and placed second in the 3200 meter run at the state finals… He is just a freshman but is one team member who will not be returning next season as his family is moving to Georgia where his father is starting a new job… Congratulations to all the winners and good luck to Evan!

Pro Sports    For more information on any of the following games, click on their score.

  • Nationals 5 – Braves 4… The Braves started a short two-game series with the Washington Nationals at Sun Trust Park last night with a 5-4 loss to the Nationals… The Braves led early 2-1 but the Nationals struck for 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning and then added another run in the 7th inning to take the lead and eventually the win… The Braves rookie Austin Riley picked up his 6th homerun of the season a 2-run shot in the 8th inning to put the Braves last 2 runs on the board.

  • Drive 7 – GreenJackets 6… The Greenville Drive finished their 5-game series with the August GreenJackets last night on a positive note as they took a 7-6 win thus winning the series 4 game to 1… The Drive had to come back to take the win as they scored 2 runs in the top of the 9th inning and then held the GreenJackets in the bottom of the inning to take the win…. The Drive are off tonight but will return home tomorrow night to start 7-game home stand.

Raider Baseball Camp

The Raider Baseball Program will be hosting a 4-day camp, June 24th-27th. This camp is offered to young boys and girls, ages 7-12. While at camp, your son/daughter will learn basic baseball fundamentals; including base running, hitting, catching, throwing, and specific position fundamentals. Our goal for this camp is to serve youth baseball players in our county that want to become better players. We feel like it is our duty to give back to the community that has grown and shaped so many of our Raider Baseball players, past and present. We look forward to working with our youth and hope to see all of you on June 24th. Registrations will take place every morning beginning at 8am. Snacks and water will be provided. Players should wear proper baseball attire every day; baseball pants, hat, and cleats. If a player does not have appropriate baseball attire, please have them dress in clothes that they can get dirty in and tennis shoes. The cost is $45 per player / $55 for Siblings. A Google Form link is provided below if your children plan to attend, in order for us to get a head count… For more information or if you have questions contact Coach Patterson by email at kjpatterson@laurens55.org.     Click on following to register: LINK: Baseball Camp
