Braves… The Braves were down in Miami over the weekend for a 3 game series with the Marlins.

  • Friday: Braves 7 – Marlins 1… On Friday the Braves opened the series with a 7-1 win over the Marlins… The Braves bats pounded out 14 hits while two Braves pitchers held the marlins to just 5 hits with Mike Soroko getting the start and going 8 strong innings giving up the 1 earned run on 3 hits while striking out 6 and walking just 2… Freddie Freeman (17) and Robert Acuna Jr (13) both homered for the Braves.
  • Saturday: Braves 1 – Marlins 0Saturday’s game was more of a pitcher’s duel as the two teams combined for only 7 hits and 1 run with the Braves taking a 1-0 win… Julio Teheran went 6 innings and got the win for the Braves… The Braves only run came in the 7th inning when Tyler Flowers drove in Austin Riley with a sacrifice fly.
  • Sunday: Braves 7 – Marlins 6 (12)… Yesterday the Braves pulled the brooms out as they defeated the Marlins 7-6 to sweep the series but they had to come from behind and go to extra innings to do it… The Braves scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th inning to tie the game 5-5 to send it into extra innings… Both teams scored a single run in the 10th inning ad were scoreless in the 11th… Matt Joyce had a single in the 12th driving in Ozzie Albies with what would prove to be the winning run… Robert Acuna Jr (14) had a 3-run homer in the 9th inning to help the Braves tie the game.
  • Next for the Braves… The Braves return home to Sun Trust Park tonight to start a 10-game homestand with the Pirates being the first team in for a 4-game series.


Drive… The Drive finished their series with the West Virginia Power up in West Virginia over the weekend… As you may recall they started the 4-game series last Thursday night with a 7-3 win over the Power.

  • Friday: Power 4 – Drive 2… On Friday the Power rebounded and outhit the Drive 9-6 taking a 4-2 win over the Drive and they scored 3 of their runs in the 7th inning.
  • Saturday: Drive 8 – Power 2… The Drive then turned the tables on Saturday taking an 8-3 win where their bats roughed-up 3 Power pitchers for 12 hits with all 8 of the Drive runs being earned… Kole Cottam led the Drive going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
  • Sunday: Drive 7 – Power 1… Yesterday the Drive took a 7-4 win over the Power thus winning the series 3 games to 1… Two of the Drive’s 11 hits were homers which lifted them to the win.
  • Next for the Drive… The Drive return home to Flour Field tonight to start a 3-game series with the Kannapolis Intimidators.


NHL: Bruins 5 – Blues 1… well for you three hockey fans out there in case you missed it, last night the Boston Bruins took a 5-1 win over the St. Louis Blues to tie the Stanley Cup Finals at 3 games each… Game 7 will be Wednesday.


NBA Friday: Toronto 105 – Golden State 92… Last Friday he Toronto raptors took a 105-92 win over the Golden State Warriors on the Warriors home court to take a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals Series… Game 5 will be tonight in Toronto.

Raider Basketball Camp… LDHS basketball Coach Ryan Walker and his staff will be conducting a basketball camp for youth in grades 1-6 on June 12th to the 14th (Wednesday – Friday) at LDHS from 9:00 am until noon. … The cost is only $50 and to register for the camp click here which will carry you to the District 55 Athletic website where you can download the registration form… If you have any questions email Coach Walker at


 Raider Baseball Camp… The Raider Baseball Program will be hosting a 4-day camp, June 24th-27th. This camp is offered to young boys and girls, ages 7-12. While at camp, your son/daughter will learn basic baseball fundamentals; including base running, hitting, catching, throwing, and specific position fundamentals. Our goal for this camp is to serve youth baseball players in our county that want to become better players. We feel like it is our duty to give back to the community that has grown and shaped so many of our Raider Baseball players, past and present. We look forward to working with our youth and hope to see all of you on June 24th. Registrations will take place every morning beginning at 8am. Snacks and water will be provided. Players should wear proper baseball attire every day; baseball pants, hat, and cleats. If a player does not have appropriate baseball attire, please have them dress in clothes that they can get dirty in and tennis shoes. The cost is $45 per player / $55 for Siblings.  Raider Youth Softball Camp… Starting June 10th and running through August 26th Coach Michaela Smith will be offering a FREE softball camp on Mondays for young ladies in grades 1-6…. There is no registration required and all you need to bring is your glove… Again the clinic is free and it is on Mondays at the LDHS softball field or adjacent hitting building from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm… If you have any questions email Coach Smith at:


Clinton YMCA Summer Sports Camps, Swimming Lessons and Pool Schedule… The Clinton YMCA has a full summer of sports camps scheduled and again this summer they will be offering swimming lessons just about every week…. If you would like to see the full schedule of sports camps and swimming lesson as well as the pool schedule click here or see the posting in the Featured Sports section of our homepage… The next sports camps at the Clinton YMCA are tennis June 17-20 for various age groups at different times and Cheer Camp June 18-20 for girls 5-12… You must register by 5:00 pm this Friday (7-14-19).
