Free Summer Meals for Kids & Youth

A free summer meals program began yesterday in both Laurens County School Districts 55 and 56. Lunches are free and open to children and youth.

In District 55, there are 18 locations where kids and teens 18 or younger can enjoy lunch each day. These include schools along with churches and organizations that serve children and youth. Hours vary but most are open at noon.

Some of the District 55 Summer Meal sites are also serving breakfast. Specific sites and their hours for serving are posted on the District 55 Facebook site, also noted at:

In School District 56, the Summer Lunch Program is also available for youth 18 and younger at no charge. The District 56 Summer Lunch is provided at Clinton High School from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Mondays through Thursdays. It is available from yesterday through July 25th, except for the week of July 4th. Adults may eat at the Clinton High site for $3.75. At CHS on Wednesdays, there will be an option of a salad bar and baked potato.

For many kids, summertime means food, friends, and fun. For families who count on school breakfast and lunch, however, the summer months can be stressful as family food budgets expand. The Summer Meal program is designed to help alleviate some of that stress through the summer meal program.
