  • Kid’s Sports CampJuly 15-19… This camp is for youth ages 7-12 and is a fun, energetic camp that will give your aspiring athlete an opportunity to try three different sports! The camper will rotate between wrestling, flag football, and baseball, learning the basics of each from proven clinicians… For more information about this camp click here

 

Local Notes:   

  • Clinton and Laurens in 7 on 7 Contest Today… The countdown clock on high school football has reached 52 days and right now most of the local teams are in conditioning almost every day and 7 on 7 completions… This morning Clinton and Laurens will be involved in one of those 7 on 7 competitions at Laurens High School… It starts at 10:00 am so if you get a chance go on over and check the teams out

  • Braves… The Braves were off last night as they started a 4-day break for the All-Star Game which is tonight in Cleveland….The Braves go into the break with a 54-37 record which has them in first place in the NL east 6 games ahead of second place Washington and 6.5 games ahead of Philadelphia… The Mets are 13.5 games behind and the Marlins are 19.5 games behind.
  • All-Star Game… The Braves have placed 3 members of the team on the All-Star Roster for the National League… Freddie Freeman will start at first base and Ronald Acuna Jr. will start in centerfield… Right-hand pitcher Mike Soroko was also selected for the game. … To see the entire starting lineup for both teams and a list of all players who made the rosters, click here… The game tonight can be seen on FOX and the pregame hype starts at 7:30.
  • Acuna Falls in Home Run Derby… The Braves Ronald Acuna Jr. was one of the participants in the Home Run Derby last night in Cleveland and he hit 25 homeruns in the first round to advance to the semi-finals where he only hit 19 homeruns falling to the eventual winner Pete Alonso of the Mets… There were a total of 312 homeruns hit last night in the contest which set a new record… Can anyone say “juiced baseballs”?… To see how the other participants did, click here
  • Drive… The Greenville Drive were off last night and will start a 3-game series in Ashville with the Tourist tonight.

This & That: 

LDHS Youth Cheerleading Camp… On Thursday, July 11th the Laurens Raider JV and Varsity cheerleaders will be holding a one-day camp from 9:00 am until noon in the auxiliary gym at LDHS… The camp is for ages 4-12 and they will be working on a cheerleading routine to present at the Clinton vs. Laurens game on August 30th… For more information about this camp click here and/or email Ashley Hall at ahall@laurens55.org… To get a copy of the registration form click here.

  

Raider Youth Softball Camp… Starting June 10th and running through August 26th Coach Michaela Smith will be offering a FREE softball camp on Mondays for young ladies in grades 1-6…. There is no registration required and all you need to bring is your glove… Again the clinic is free and it is on Mondays at the LDHS softball field or adjacent hitting building from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm… If you have any questions email Coach Smith at: mesmith@laurens55.org

 

Football and Cheerleading at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department… Registration is now open for tackle football and cheerleading at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department…. These are open to youth ages 7-12 and the cost is $60 per person plus a $25 equipment rental fee for those participating in football…. You can register at The Ridgeon Exchange Drive during their normal business hours and if you have any questions visit them there of call 681-7275… The last day to register is July 19th.

 

 Flag Football and Cheerleading at the Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open for flag football and cheerleading at the Clinton Family YMCA… There will be 3 age appropriate divisions for flag football that include 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12 years old…Cheerleading is for youth in kindergarten through 6th grade… Now for more information about this such as cost, age date determination, fall-out dates and financial assistance click here or call the YMCA at 833-1555… The last day to register is August 16th.

 

Clinton YMCA Summer Sports Camps, Swimming Lessons and Pool Schedule… The Clinton YMCA has a full summer of sports camps scheduled and again this summer they will be offering swimming lessons just about every week…. Laurens YMCA Summer Sports and Specialty Camps … Starting July 1st, the Laurens family YMCA will be having several sports and specialty camps… All camps cost $50 for YMCA members and $60 for non-members….
