CHS

  • McCarthy to Lead the Red Devil Baseball Program… According to other media sources, Assistant Principal Sean McCarthy will be the head coach of the Clinton Red Devil varsity baseball team… McCarthy has held this position before as well as the head coach for the softball team… McCarthy stepped down as head coach after the 2017 season to concentrate on administrative duties and was replaced by Coach Tom Fortman… Fortman stepped down after the end of this past season to take an assistant principal position at Chester HS… Congratulations to Coach McCarthy!

 

 

Laurens County Speedway Main Event Results From the Fourth of July Races:

  • Limited SECA 604 Crate… Tony Quarles jumped to the lead at the start of this race and never gave it up as he finished over 2.5 seconds ahead of Frank Coates who finished second… In her first race at the LCS Ahnna Parkhurst finished third.
  • Thunder Bombers… Dylan Chappell also jumped to the lead at the start in the Thunder Bombers but had to hold off Tinker Roberts who started on the inside of row 3 but charged ahead to finish second… Dan Lawson finished third.
  • FWD… The FWD main event had a green-white-checkered finish in which Travis Jamieson was able to pull away form Set Smith to take the win by almost 2 seconds… The third driver to get the checkered flag was Troy McDonald.
  • 602 Crate… Colt Smith dominated the field in the 602 Crate main event, beating Alan Shifferly by more than four seconds in a race that saw some wrecks with those two cars being the only two cars on the lead lap at its’ end.
  • 4-Cylinder… Philip Watson took the win and by the 7th lap he was lapping cars in the tail end of the field… The real fight was for second where Aaron Summitt prevailed over J.R. Baker despite going high and getting a little loose last in the race.
  • Demolition Derby… Now they had a demolition derby on the fourth and when all the wrecks were over and cars were strewn all over the place the last 3 drivers running were Eric Caughman, Danny Davis and Brandon Davis who were declared co-winners.

  • BravesThe Braves continue to be off for the All-Star Break and will be back in action tomorrow night as they travel to San Diego to start the second half of their season.
  • Tourist 1 – Drive 0The Greenville Drive were up in Ashville last night for the second game of their 3-game series with the Tourist… Just like on Tuesday night it is not good news for Drive fans as the Tourist won again this time by a score of 1-0… They simply outhit the Drive 7-2.
  • NASCAR… Just a quick reminder that the rain delayed Coke Zero 400 at Daytona last Saturday was run on Sunday the #77 car driven by Justin Haley won the race which was shortened by rain… William Bryon finished second , Jimmie Johnson third, Ty Dillon fourth and Ryan Newman fifth.
  • Monster Energy Cup Standings…. The top driver in the Monster Energy Cup Series after Sunday’s race is Joey Logano (700)… The next four are Kyle Busch (682) Kevin Harvick (625), Brad Keselowski (613) & Martin Truex Jr. (597)… To see the entire Cup Standings, click here.

 LDHS Youth Cheerleading Camp… On Thursday, July 11th the Laurens raider JV and Varsity cheerleaders will be holding a one-day camp from 9:00 am until noon in the auxiliary gym at LDHS… The camp is for ages 4-12 and they will be working on a cheerleading routine to present at the Clinton vs. Laurens game on August 30th… For more information about this camp click here and/or email Ashley Hall at ahall@laurens55.org… To get a copy of the registration form click here.

  

Raider Youth Softball Camp… Starting June 10th and running through August 26th Coach Michaela Smith will be offering a FREE softball camp on Mondays for young ladies in grades 1-6…. There is no registration required and all you need to bring is your glove… Again the clinic is free and it is on Mondays at the LDHS softball field or adjacent hitting building from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm… If you have any questions email Coach Smith at: mesmith@laurens55.org

 

Clinton YMCA Summer Sports Camps, Swimming Lessons and Pool Schedule… The Clinton YMCA has a full summer of sports camps scheduled and again this summer they will be offering swimming lessons just about every week…. Laurens YMCA Summer Sports and Specialty Camps … Starting July 1st, the Laurens family YMCA will be having several sports and specialty camps… All camps cost $50 for YMCA members and $60 for non-members….
