Man Dies Friday After Striking Rear of Truck Rig

A man was fatally injured near Clinton Friday afternoon his vehicle struck a tractor-trailer rig. Laurens County Deputy Coroner Rodney Hartsell identified the deceased as 21-year-old Dakota James Linton of Leesville, SC. South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper 1st Class Tyler Tidwell said the victim was driving his 2000 Dodge Caravan westbound on Interstate 26 near the 57 mile-marker at 12:55 Friday afternoon when it struck the rear of a westbound 2006 International tractor-trailer rig. The truck was being driven by a 55-year-old man from West Haven, Connecticut, who was not injured in the wreck. He was also wearing a seat belt at the time.

Deputy Coroner Hartsell said that Dakota James Linton died at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma to his head and body.
