Attempted Murder in Saturday Shooting


One man’s attempt to gun down another Saturday was charged with an overnight arrest by Laurens Police. Booked in the Johnson Detention Center early Sunday morning was 21-year-old Deshawn Isaih Simmons of Apartment 9-C at 800 Spring Street, Laurens. He’s been charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, Discharging Weapon into a Vehicle, Malicious Damage and Discharging a Firearm inside the City Limits. A 6th charge alleges an Uninsured Motor Vehicle Violation.

Warrants citing the investigation of Laurens Police Detective Cheek state that on July 13th Simmons did, with malice aforethought, attempt to murder the victim by firing a handgun a multitude of times directly into an occupied vehicle. A warrant adds that the precise placement of the projectiles into the driver’s compartment area of the vehicle clearly reveals the defendant’s intention to execute the victim during the heinous act.  Simmons is accused of being in possession of a weapon during a violent crime Saturday, having a handgun in his direct possession during a Attempted Murder at 800 Spring Street. Deshawn Simmons is further accused of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle Saturday, discharging a handgun into an occupied vehicle with intent of inflicting serious bodily injury or death on the victim, at 800 Spring Street.

Simmons is also accused of shooting into a victim’s unoccupied vehicle Saturday. A Malicious Damage warrant states he shot toward the victim’s

unoccupied vehicle, with two bullets hitting the vehicle, causing the window to shatter and other damage to the front passenger area of the car during the Saturday incident at 800 Spring Street. Another warrant charges him with unlawful discharge of a firearm inside the city limits, noting he discharged the weapon during the act of a violent felony.

Deshawn Isaih Simmons remained in custody this morning with cash or surety bonds on his six charges totaling $167,440.
