Sports Report for Wednesday, 7-17-2019

 Clinton AAA Dixie Youth All-Star Team… Following information courtesy of Jason Glenn

  • Pineview 17 – Clinton 10… Pineview Clinton’s run to a State title came to an end as Pineview scored 9 runs on only 4 hits in the top of the 6th inning to break open a close game as they went on to take a 17-10 win over Clinton…. Clinton kind of shot themselves in the foot as they committed 5 errors in the critical 6th inning…Pineview got on top early in the 1st with 3 runs…  Owen Glenn led off Clinton’s half of the 1st with a single, and got all the way around to 3rd after the ball got by the left fielder… However, a hard hit ball by Talan Campbell was fielded at 1st base then thrown home to tag Glenn out… Clinton finally got on the board in the 2nd inning after loading the bases and getting back to back walks from Brian Steele and Asa Baker. .. Zack Lawson held Pineview scoreless in the 2nd and 3rd innings, but gave up 4 runs in the 4th, aided by 2 errors. Pineview also had a solo home run in the inning… Clinton responded, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th. Dalton Williams and Ryder Rowland both singled, Rhett Gilliam and Steele both reached by error, and Glenn hit a deep fly ball that the left fielder missed allowing the bases to clear… Pineview scored one in the 5th, but Dalton Williams led off with his 2nd home run of the tournament to tie the game… Aiden Price walked and Ryder Rowland singled to drive one run… Price to give Clinton a one run lead going to the 6th… Errors plagued Clinton in the last inning allowing 9 runs to cross the plate for a 17-9 deficit. In Clinton’s last at bat, Owen Glenn led off with a single, and both Talan Campbell and Dalton Williams walked loading the bases but Clinton could only get one run across after a ground ball out and 2 fly balls ended the game.

  • 2019 ACC Football Kickoff … The ACC is holding its version on media days for football starting today as the football season draws closer… All the coaches will be speaking and have a couple of players with them… Dabo Swinney is scheduled to face the media today at 4:15 today… To see the entire schedule click here to go to the ACC website where a posting about this is located.
  • SEC Football Kickoff… Now the SEC version of football media days actually started Monday… South Carolina Coach Will Muschamp will be speaking today and is scheduled to be the last speaker of the day…. If you click here it will carry you to the SEC website where they have a posting about their media days that has links to comments made by coaches and other information.

  • Brewers 13 – Braves 1… Well every now and then all teams have one of those games where no matter what you do the other team seem destined to win and that was the case last night as the Brewers took a 13-1 win over the Braves up in Milwaukie snapping the Braves winning streak at 5… The big inning for the Brewers was the 7th where they out 6 runs on the board to break the game open… Four Brave pitchers gave up 13 hits three of which were homers while three Brewer pitchers gave up only 5 hits and only one of them was a homes which came off the bat of Tyler Flowers (8) in the 5th inning which provided the Braves with their only run… The two teams finish their 3-game series with an afternoon game at 2:10 EDT this afternoon. 
  • Drive 4 – Tourist 1Now there is better news for Greenville Drive fans as they pounded out 10 hits in route to a 4-1 win over the Asheville Tourist last night at Flour Field… Two of those hits were homers including Tristan Casas’ 2-run homer in the 8th inning and he also had an RBI single in the 4th inning.

 Football and Cheerleading at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department… Registration is now open for tackle football and cheerleading at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department…. These are open to youth ages 7-12 and the cost is $60 per person plus a $25 equipment rental fee for those participating in football…. You can register at The Ridgeon Exchange Drive during their normal business hours and if you have any questions visit them there of call 681-7275… The last day to register is July 26th.

  

Flag Football and Cheerleading at the Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open for flag football and cheerleading at the Clinton Family YMCA… There will be 3 age appropriate divisions for flag football that include 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12 years old…Cheerleading is for youth in kindergarten through 6th grade… Now for more information about this such as cost, age date determination, fall-out dates and financial assistance click here or call the YMCA at 833-1555… The last day to register is August 16th.

  

Raider Youth Softball Camp… Starting June 10th and running through August 26th Coach Michaela Smith will be offering a FREE softball camp on Mondays for young ladies in grades 1-6…. There is no registration required and all you need to bring is your glove… Again the clinic is free and it is on Mondays at the LDHS softball field or adjacent hitting building from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm… If you have any questions email Coach Smith at: mesmith@laurens55.org

 

Clinton YMCA Summer Sports Camps, Swimming Lessons and Pool Schedule… The Clinton YMCA has a full summer of sports camps scheduled and again this summer they will be offering swimming lessons just about every week…. Laurens YMCA Summer Sports and Specialty Camps … Starting July 1st, the Laurens family YMCA will be having several sports and specialty camps… All camps cost $50 for YMCA members and $60 for non-members…. To see a full list of these camps click here and if you have more questions call the YMCA at 984-2621… You must register by the Friday before the camp starts. The next 2 camps are: Archery July 23-25, 9:00.-11:00 am, Ages 7-15… Ready, aim, fire! Campers will learn the basic skills of archery, shooting targets, and learned different styles of shooting. The camp will be instructed by Ed Prescott. Spaces are limited for this camp… Soccer Camp July 29-August 1, Ages 5-9 at 9-11 am, Ages 15 and up at 6:00-8:00 pm… Goal! Take your soccer skills to the next level! Campers will participate in soccer drills to improve their skills in passing, dribbling and shooting! PC Season Football Tickets on Sale

  • PC has 6 home games this season and the first one is on Saturday, Sept 14 when the Blue Hose host Jacksonville.
  • Blue chair back reserve seats are only $90.00 for the entire 6-game home season.
  • Parking is $5 per game but season parking passes are available for $25.
  • Per game seating (subject to availability) is $20 per game for chair type seats bench general admission will be $10 per seat for adults and $5 for students.
