Local Notes

Raiders and Red Devils Start Football Practice… Both the Clinton Red Devil and the Laurens Raider football teams started their preparation for the upcoming season last Friday morning… There was no contact the first couple of days as per SCHSL rules but there was a lot of conditioning, agility and other drills as measuring speed and other attributes of the athletes…. I did make a few photos at each school and if you would like to see them click on the appropriate link below…The Laurens Academy Crusaders start their fall practices today.

Upcoming Scrimmages and Jamborees… While I was out and about last Friday a couple of fans mentioned that they wished they knew when their favorite team(s) would be involved in scrimmages or jamborees… I have put a post in the Featured Sports section on the right side of our homepage at titled 2019 Laurens County Pre-Season Football Events… If you open that posting you will find a list of all the scrimmages and jamborees for Clinton, Laurens and Laurens Academy that I know about… If you wish to go there know. click here…. Both Clinton and Laurens have scrimmages coming up this Thursday… Clinton will be at River Bluff (5:00 pm) and Laurens will be at Strom Thurmond (10:00 am).

  • Saturday: Braves 5 – Reds 4 (10)… On Saturday the Braves led 3-0 going into the top of the 7th inning when the Reds tied the game with a 3-run homer by Aristides Aquino… The Braves retook the lead scoring a single run in the bottom of the 7th inning only to have the Reds tie the game in the top of the 9th to send the game into extra innings… In the bottom of the 10th inning with two outs and runners on second and third base, Ronald Acuna Jr singled down the third base line to drive in the winning run giving the Braves a 5-4 win over the Reds… This was Acuna’s first walk off winning hit of his pro career.
