Laurens

  • Michaela Smith Returns… Most of the true Raider fans know that LDHS alumnus Micheala Smith took over the softball program this past season foregoing her last year of softball at Anderson University… Yesterday Laurens District 55 released an article stating that not only would she return as the head softball coach this coming season but also after graduating from Anderson this spring with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology she will also be joining the faculty at LDHS teaching Biology… Now if you would like to read the entire press release which has much more about Michela and a brief summary of this past softball season, click here… From one old biology teacher to a young new one, congratulations and good luck not only on the softball field next season but also in the classroom.
  • Raider Youth Volleyball Camp… On Friday, August 9th Coach Lake and the LDHS volley ball team will be conducting a camp from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Auxiliary Gym and LDHS… The camp is for 3rd through 8th graders and the cost is only $40… Lunch will be provided but there are a couple of things the camper should bring… To find out what they are and for more information about this camp, click here… To register for the camp click here… Don’t let this opportunity to improve your child’s volleyball skills pass you by!

  • Twins 5 – Braves 3The Atlanta Braves started a 3-game series with the Twines in Minneapolis last night… The Twins came into the series leading the AL Central Division with a 70-42 record so the series shapes up to be a good test for the NL East leading Braves… The Twins took an early lead but the Braves tied it and the score was 3-3 going into the bottom of the 9th inning… After two were out, the Twins Louis Arraez singled and then with a 0-1 count Miguel Sano had a pinch-hit homer (19) to give the Twins a walk-off 5-3 win over the Braves… Freddie Freeman went 2-4 and had a solo homer (27) for the Braves in the 5th inning.
  • Drive 4 – Grasshopper 3Well for the first time in 9 games there is good news for Greenville Drive fans as they took a 4-3 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers last night at Flour Field thus snapping an eight-game losing streak…. The Drive scored all their runs in the first two innings to take a 4-2 lead and then held on to take the win.

 

  • Panthers Training Camp Info… The Carolina Panther are holding their training camp at Wofford College until Wednesday, August 14th and if you click here.it will take you to a posting on the Panthers’ website where the complete training camp schedule is located and it has details on promotions and special events during the camp…. The Panthers will start practice at 9:25 a.m. today and will not be in Spartanburg to practice until Sunday at 3:10 pm as they have tomorrow, Friday and Saturday off and will play their first pre-season game in Chicago on Thursday.

Discounted Resort Rates for Laurens vs. Myrtle Beach Football Game… A reminder that this season the Laurens Raiders will be traveling to Myrtle Beach to take on the Seahawks in the second game of the season pm September the 6th… Now if you are like me, which is an awfully long drive to turn around and drive back to Laurens after the game… I plan on spending two nights down there and if you would like to do the same, the Captain’s Quarters Resort is offering some special rates to Raider fans… The offers include not only special room rates but also discounts on other activities….  Flag Football and Cheerleading at the Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open for flag football and cheerleading at the Clinton Family YMCA… There will be 3 age appropriate divisions for flag football that include 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12 years old…Cheerleading is for youth in kindergarten through 6th grade… Now for more information about this such as cost, age date determination, fall-out dates and financial assistance click here or call the YMCA at 833-1555… The last day to register is August 16th.

 

  Raider Youth Softball Camp… Starting June 10th and running through August 26th Coach Michaela Smith will be offering a FREE softball camp on Mondays for young ladies in grades 1-6…. There is no registration required and all you need to bring is your glove… Again the clinic is free and it is on Mondays at the LDHS softball field or adjacent hitting building from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm… If you have any questions email Coach Smith at: mesmith@laurens55.org

  • Boys Soccer Evening Camp… This camp will take place Saturday August 10th – Monday 12th and is for youth ages 5-14… The cost is only $30 and run from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm… For more information on this camp click here and to register click here.

 

PC Season Football Tickets on Sale

  • PC has 6 home games this season and the first one is on Saturday, Sept 14 when the Blue Hose host Jacksonville.
  • Blue chair back reserve seats are only $90.00 for the entire 6-game home season.
  • Parking is $5 per game but season parking passes are available for $25.
  • Per game seating (subject to availability) is $20 per game for chair type seats bench general admission will be $10 per seat for adults and $5 for students.
