Local Notes

Laurens Academy Starts Football Practice…. Back on Monday the Laurens Academy Crusaders started their fall practice getting ready for the upcoming season… I was able to take a few photos while I was there and if you click here it will carry you to YouTube where I have a slideshow of those photos… When you have a dozen or less player on your team and you are playing 8-man football it can be tough to practice like the bigger schools do… Sometimes even the coaches (Todd Kirk) have to get involved in the practice above and beyond coaching… Check out the photos to see what I mean.

  • Friday: Braves 8 – Marlins 4… On Friday the Braves rebounded from their Thursday loss taking an 8-4 win over the Marlins… One of the main reasons for the Braves win was the three homeruns that were hit by Ozzie Albies and Ronald Acuna Jr… Albies put the Braves up 1-0 in the first inning with a solo homer… Acuna had a 2-run homer in the 5th inning and another 2-run homer in the 9th inning to give him 32 homers on the season…. • Saturday: Marlins 7 – Braves 6 (10)… On Saturday the Braves scored 3 runs in the top of the 9th inning to take a 6-2 lead only to have the bullpen surrender 4 runs in the bottom of the inning as the marlins tied the game to send it into extra innings… In the 10th inning the Marlins retired the Braves in order and then scored the winning run in the bottom of the inning on a hit, an error and a sacrifice fly to win the game 7-6… Miami outhit the Braves 13-7 and Johan Camargo had a 3 run homer for the Braves in the 9th inning.
  • Sunday: Braves 5 – Marlins 4… The Braves earned a split of the 4-game series on Sunday by taking a 5-4 win over the Marlins despite being outhit by the Marlins 12-5… Two of the reasons for the Braves win were a three-run homer by Ender Inciarte in the 4th inning and a solo homer by Ronald Acuna Jr, in the 5th inning… The Braves have the night of tonight and will return to Sun Trust Park tomorrow to start a 3-game series with the Mets.
