Checking for Building & Zoning Compliance

A citywide survey is in progress to check on building and zoning compliance in Laurens. Mayor Nathan Senn reported to City Council at their August meeting this week that Jeremy Hudson of Building and Zoning has

been doing the citywide survey to see if all ordinances are being followed and to enforce them where non-compliance is found. The Mayor noted, “I’ve seen many houses and businesses have been cleaned up.”

Laurens City Council held off on giving final approval to adoption of the 2015 International Building Codes. Second reading was on the agenda for an ordinance for that purpose. The motion to table came from Council member Alicia Sullivan, due to questions she had about this change that could only be answered by City Attorney Tommy Thompson. He was not in attendance at this month’s meeting.
