Red Devils & Raiders Battle in JV Football

  • Laurens 13 – Clinton 12Last night at the renovated Wilder Stadium the Raiders and the Red Devils got together in JV football action… It was a hard fought contest that saw the Red Devils go up 12 -0 only to have the Raiders come back and take a 13-12 win… The Red Devils scored at the end of their second possession of the game when Bryson James carried it in from 1 yard out at the 7:57 mark of the first quarter to cap a 31 yard drive that was set up when the Red Devils recovered at Raider fumble at the Raider 31… The two point conversion failed… The Red Devils scored again on their next possession when Austin Copeland hit Wilson wages on a 22 yard scoring strike but again the Pat attempt failed… That score came with 1:41 left in the half and at the time no one new that would be the last Red Devil score…. On the ensuing kickoff Cayson Elledge returned it 38 yards to the Clinton 47 yard line… Three plays later James Rawl connected with Jay Pulley on a 29 yard scoring pass and the PAT missed to make it 12-6 Red Devils with just under a minute left in the half….The second half saw both team have trouble to move the ball consistently but the Raiders did manage one more score… After the Raider defense held the Red Devils on a fourth and three at the Clinton 35 yard line… The Raiders covered that distance in 4 plays with Gemire Darden carrying it in from 6 yards out with 5:25 left in the game and then Brian Sheffield added the PAT to give the Raiders the 13-12 come from behind win.
