Sports Report for Wednesday, 9-4-2019

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils… Catching up on some sports results at CHS:

  • Volleyball: Broome 3 – CHS 0… Last Thursday the Red Devil volleyball team hosted the Broome Centurions… The results are not what I would like to report as Broome took a 3-0 win… Set scores were 25-11, 25-8 and 25-8.
  • JV Volleyball: Broome 2 – CHS 0… In JV action prior to the varsity, the JV’s also lost by a score of 2-0… The first set score was 25-14 but the Red Devil JVs fought back and made the second set score 25-21… The teams are scheduled to travel to Ninety Six tomorrow.
  • Girls Tennis: CHS 6 – BHP 1… The girls’ tennis team was also in action last Thursday as they traveled to BHP to take on the Bears… Good news here for Red Devil fans as they took a 6-1 win over the Bears… Chandley Daily, Reese Gowan, Gracie Spangler and Jerri Hill all took wins in singles action for the Red Devils… Mary Catherine Dailey and Chandler Dailey teamed up to form the #1 doubles team and they defeated their opponents as did the #2 doubles team of Kaitey Threatt and Grace Johnson… For more information on this match, click here…. The team will travel to Christ Church for a match tomorrow.

 

 

LDHS: Raiders… Catching up on volleyball action for the Raiders

  • Union County 3 – Laurens 2… Last Thursday the Raiders hoisted the Union County Yellow jackets in a JV –Varsity doubleheader of volleyball action… Union took the first set 25-20 but the Raiders came back and took the next two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-18… Union fought back taking the fourth set 25-14… In the fifth and deciding set broke through twinning it 15-9… In JV action prior to the varsity, Union took a 2-0 win… Set scores were 25-18 and 25-14.
  • JL Mann 3 – Laurens 0… The volleyball teams were back in action last night as they traveled up to JL Mann to take on the Patriots… I wish I had better news to report because in varsity action Mann took a 3-0 win… Set scores were 25-12, 25-15 and 25-9… For more information on this match, click here… In JV action last night the patriots were victorious by a score of 2-0… Set scores were 25-17 and 25-10…  Both Raider squads travel to TL Hanna for a tri-matches today with Hanna and Easley

 

Middle School Athletics… The four Laurens District 55 middle schools will hold their annual jamboree today at 5:00 pm at KC Hanna Stadium… If you can please come out and watch these future Raiders as they get ready for their season… The schedule for today is:

  • Game 1: GCO vs Sanders
  • Game 2: LMS vs. HT

  • Braves 7 – Blue Jays 2The Braves and the Blue Jays concluded their short two-game series last night and Atlanta was able to sweep the series by taking a 7-2 win… The Braves did it playing “small ball” as they did not have a single homer among their 8 hits Freddie Freeman and Josh Donaldson led the Braves each going 2 for 3 with Donaldson having 3 RBIs… The Braves have the night off and  will start an important 4-game series with the Nationals in Atlanta on Thursday

Laurens County TD Club

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday at noon out at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Headquarters on Exchange Drive…. If you would like to see the entire schedule and information on how to join the club, click here.
  • The next meeting is September 12 and in addition to the local high school coaches talking about their past and upcoming games, Tommy Spangler the Head Coach at PC will be the featured speaker.

This and That

Run Hog Wild… The Laurens Family YMCA in conjunction with Self Regional Healthcare and Piedmont Orthopedic Associates of the Lakelands will be holding a 1 mile run on October 5, 2019 starting at 9 am… Proceeds will help the children of our community by going to the Laurens City Police for their Christmas in the City program and for the YMCA Youth Scholarship program… The cost is $15 if you don’t want a T-shirt and $25 if you do…  Registration the day of the race will start at 8 am at Laurens Middle School which is where the race will start… You can register at wwwlakelandsymva.org/programs…. If you want to go ahead and fill out the registration form to bring on the day of the race or possibly drop by the Laurens YMCA, click here.
