Sports Report for Friday, 9-6-2019

PC Notes

  • Mercer at PC Tomorrow… A quick reminder that the Blue Hose football team was able to add the Mercer Bears to their schedule earlier this week and that game will be played tomorrow starting at 2:000 pm at Bailey Memorial Stadium… Now for more information bout the game including ticket information and series history between the two schools, click here… Of course this is the season opener for PC after their game with Stetson was canceled last Saturday.

 

Computer Problems Yesterday… The faithful listeners to my sports report probably noticed yesterday that the computer malfunctioned and played Wednesday’s sports report in error… I invite you to go to Mike’s Sports Report for Thursday which you can find a link to on our homepage at wlbg.com and you will find out who the winners were at the Laurens County Speedway Main Events last Saturday night and you will also find out the results of the Middle School Football Jamboree held at KC Hanna Stadium Wednesday evening.

 

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • Red Devils Host Broome Tonight… The CHS Red Devils will have their home opener tonight as they host the Broome Centurions with kickoff slated for 7:30 pm… The Centurions come into the game with a season record of 1-1… They defeated Central 20-14 back on week 0 and last week they fell to Woodruff by a score of 45-28… Of course the Red Devils come into the game with an 0-1 record after losing to Laurens in the season opener last week at KC Hanna Stadium
  • Ribbon Cutting at 6:30… Prior to the game with Broome tonight they will have a ribbon cutting at Wilder Stadium… As most of you know the entrance area to Wilder Stadium underwent a compete rebuild since last football season… New restrooms, ticket booths and concession stand are all part of this renovation… Also the stadium has a new and much improved lighting system… Get there early for the ribbon cutting and the celebration of these great improvements.
  • Clear Bag Policy… One final note on tonight’s game, please do not forget the “clear bag” policy for anyone entering Wilder Stadium tonight … If you don’t know or understand what this policy is, click here to go to an explanation of this policy.

 

LDHS: Raiders

  • Myrtle Beach Game Canceled… Just a reminder that the Laurens Raider vs. Myrtle Beach game tonight at Myrtle Beach was cancelled earlier in the week due to Hurricane Dorian… The Raiders travel to hillcrest next Friday night. .

 

Laurens Academy

  • Volleyball: LA 3 – Anderson Christian 0… Yesterday the LA Crusader volleyball teams traveled to Anderson to take on the Anderson Christian Lions… Good news for Crusader fans as they ran their young season record to 2-3 by taking a 3-0 win in varsity action… Set scores were 25-12, 25-3 and 25-8
  • MS Volleyball: LA 2 – Anderson Christian 0… Now I don’t know what the set scores were in middle school volleyball action before the varsity yesterday, but I can tell you the Crusaders took the win by a score of 2-0 over the Lions to make their season record 4-1… The Crusaders are scheduled to host WW King next Tuesday in a middle school – varsity doubleheader.
  • Bye Week… The Crusader football team is not in action tonight as they have a bye week…. The host St Johns Academy next Friday night.

  • Braves 4 – Nationals 2The Braves increased their lead in the NL East to 8 games last night by taking a 4-2 win over the Washington Nationals in Atlanta… The Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead scoring 2 runs in the first inning and held the Nationals scoreless until the top of the 9th inning when the Nationals scored their two runs… Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies each had 2 hits to lead the Braves and one of Acuna’s was a solo homer in the (37) in the 5th inning… Max Fried went 7 strong innings for the Braves giving up just 1 hit, no walks and striking out 9… He took the win giving him a season record of 16-4
  • Panthers… The Panthers open their season Sunday hosting the rams at 1:00 pm… The game can be seen locally on WHNS channel 21.
  • Falcons… The Falcons open their season Sunday at 1:00 pm also as they travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings

Laurens County TD Club

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday at noon out at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Headquarters on Exchange Drive…. If you would like to see the entire schedule and information on how to join the club, click here.

This and That

Run Hog Wild… The Laurens Family YMCA in conjunction with Self Regional Healthcare and Piedmont Orthopedic Associates of the Lakelands will be holding a 1 mile run on October 5, 2019 starting at 9 am… Proceeds will help the children of our community by going to the Laurens City Police for their Christmas in the City program and for the YMCA Youth Scholarship program… The cost is $15 if you don’t want a T-shirt and $25 if you do…  Registration the day of the race will start at 8 am at Laurens Middle School which is where the race will start… You can register at wwwlakelandsymva.org/programs….
