Sports Report for Monday, 9-9-2019

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • Broome 49 – Clinton 20… The Red Devils had their home opener last Friday night and Broom spoiled it for the Red Devils as they took a 49-20 win… Clinton did not fall due to a lack of effort as they competed to the final whistle however it might be said that the Red Devils shot themselves in the foot as mistakes aided the Centurion cause… The Red Devils had a total of 4 passes intercepted while they were only able to pick off 2 Centurion passes… They were also guilty of fumbling 4 times and losing 2 of them while the Centurions fumbled once but recovered it themselves… The Centurions led 29-0 before the Red Devils got on the board as Danny Kinard carried it in from 6 yards out with 2:12 left in the first half… The Centurions led 36-6 at the half… The Red Devils Austin Caughman had a 30 yard pick-six late in the third quarter to make it 36-12… With 11:13 left in the game Davis Wilson hit Jerimiah Boyd with a 51 yard scoring strike and when Jykorie Gary added the 2-point conversion the Red Devils had cut the Broome lead to just 36-20…  However the Red Devils would get no closer as Broome added two more scores to make the final 49-20… The stats were not as one-sided as you might expect with the score and if you would like to see the entire stat package on the game, click here.
  • JV: Clinton 42 – Broome 21… The Red Devil JV football team traveled to Broome on Thursday night and the news here is good for Red Devil fans as they took a 42-21 win over the Centurions… The Centurions led 14-13 after the first quarter of play but the Red Devils outscored them 15-7 in the second quarter and added single scores in the third and fourth quarter to take the win… Wilson Wages, Jermihis Smith, Zae Cook, Justin Copelane, Jayden Copeland, and Bryson James all scored touchdowns for the Red Devils….
