Savannah Man Victim of Sunday Wreck

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office yesterday identified the man who died Sunday afternoon after his pickup truck overturned after colliding with another vehicle near the 60-mile marker of Interstate 26 east of Clinton.  Laurens County Chief Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek said 50-year-old Douglas Michael Denton of Savannah, Georgia died of multiple blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene as of 1:38 pm Sunday.

Douglas Denton was one of six people killed on South Carolina roadways this past weekend. As of midnight Sunday night, 651 people have died on state roadways for 2019. That’s down from 709 statewide traffic fatalities on the same date last year. The state Department of Public Safety’s statistics indicate we had twelve fatalities here in Laurens County as of midnight Sunday, down from 23 the same date last year. With yesterday afternoon’s fatal car vs school bus crash, Laurens County now has 13 traffic deaths for the year.
