Sports Report for Tuesday, 9-10-2019

PC Notes

  • Mercer 45 – PC 7… The Blue Hose football team was finally able to get their first football game in last Saturday as they hosted the Mercer Bears… The Bears jumped out to an early lead and PC was not able to get on the board until the fourth quarter when they put together a 58 yard drive with Zola Davis carrying it the final yard for the score… Now for more information on this game, click here… The Blue Hose will be at home this Saturday as they host Jacksonville at 7:00 pm.

CHS Red Devils:

Tennis: Christ Church 6 – Clinton 0… Last Thursday the Lady Red Devil tennis team traveled to Greenville to take on the always strong Christ Church Cavaliers… It looks like the Cavaliers are loaded again this season as they took a 6-0 win… If you would like more details on the match including set scores, click here… The Red Devils are now 1-1 on the young season and return to action one week from today when they host Union County.

 

Cross Country Teams

9-5-19 Meet… A week ago Clinton, Laurens and Ware Shoals participated in a meet at Lake Rabon

  • Boys… The Red Devils took first place in the meet with a score of 20 (lowest score wins) while Laurens finished second with a score of 46 and Ware Shoals third with a score of 76…. Luis Brenn of Laurens finished first with a time of 19:40 and the Red Devils were paced by Nick Perkins with a time of 19:56… To see how other Red Devil team members did, click here.
  • Girls… The Lady Red Devil team also finished first in this meet besting Laurens by a score of 25-31… Sophomore Dorothy Trent led all runners with a time of 23:11… Again for more details on how other Red Devil team members did and a picture of both the boys and girls squad, click here.

 

9-7-19 Tiger Classic Meet… Now back on Saturday the cross country teams participated in the Tiger Classic at Southside HS in Greenville.

  • Boys… The boys’ team was one of 27 teams participating and the Red Devils finished 14th among some highly competitive teams… Wade Hampton won the meet with a low score of 52 while Clinton finished with a 408… Nick Perkins once again paced the Red Devils finishing 75th out of 246 runners with a time of 20:36… To see how the other top 10 Red Devil team members did, click here… By the way Laurens finished 21st.
  • Girls… The Lady Red Devils finished 20th in the same meet with Riverside HS winning it… Eight runners finished the course in the heat and Dorothy Trent led the team finishing 47th out of 175 runners who managed to finish the course… To see how the other Red Devils did, click here.

 

Red Devils to Host a Meet Today… The cross country teams will be hosting a meet today at CHS and if you are planning to attend you might want to know where they will be allowing parking at CHS… To view the parking plans for today’s meet, click here…. Good luck to the Red Devils… Go Big Red.

 

 

LDHS: Raiders

  • Volleyball: Laurens 3 – Greenwood 0… Doing some catching up with the Raider volleyball team, last Thursday they hosted region foe Greenwood at LDHS and defeated the Eagles 3-0… Set scores were 25-15, 25-21 and 25-22… Now for more information on this match, click here… No word on how the JV team came out… The varsity and JV teams are scheduled to travel to Wade Hampton HS today.
  • Girls Tennis: Laurens 4 – Greenwood 3… Now while the volleyball team was hosting Greenwood last Thursday night the girls’ tennis team traveled to Greenwood to take on the Eagles… The ride back across the Lake Greenwood was a happy one for the Raiders as they took a 4-3 win over the Eagles… Bella Youseff. McKenzie Little and Kelsie Little all took wins for the Raiders in singles action… The #1 doubles team composed of Skylar Douglas and Bella Burrafato took the fourth win for the Raiders… For more details on the match, click here.

  • Braves 7 – Phillies 2… The Braves picked up their 90th win of the season against 55 loses as they defeated the Phillies in Philadelphia last night by a score of 7-2… The Braves scored 2 runs in each of the first two innings and never looked back… They outhit the Phillies 8-5 with Ronald Acuna Jr. hitting his 38th homer of the season leading off for the Braves in the first inning and Josh Donaldson hitting a 2 run homer in the 7th inning giving him 37 round-trippers on the season.

Laurens County TD Club

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday at noon out at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Headquarters on Exchange Drive…. If you would like to see the entire schedule and information on how to join the club, click here.

Youth Soccer at Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open at the Clinton Family YMCA for Youth Soccer for youth ages 3-12 divided into 3 appropriate age groupings (3-5, 6-8 & 9-12)… The cost is $55 for YMCA members and $75 for non-members… The YMCA will not deny anyone the opportunity to participate in its youth sports activities…. Interested participants are encouraged to register well before the Monday, September 23rd deadline… For additional information and interest call the Clinton YMCA at 833-1555…. Run Hog Wild… The Laurens Family YMCA in conjunction with Self Regional Healthcare and Piedmont Orthopedic Associates of the Lakelands will be holding a 1 mile run on October 5, 2019 starting at 9 am…  Proceeds will help the children of our community by going to the Laurens City Police for their Christmas in the City program and for the YMCA Youth Scholarship program… The cost is $15 if you don’t want a T-shirt and $25 if you do…  Registration the day of the race will start at 8 am at Laurens Middle School which is where the race will start… You can register at wwwlakelandsymva.org/programs….
