Sports Report for Monday, 9-16-2019

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • Clinton 31 – Powdersville 0… Last Friday night the Red Devils defeated the Powdersville Patriots giving Coach Corey Fountain his first win at Clinton … Clinton led 9-0 at the half on a Greg Sanders 7 yard TD run in the first quarter and a 23 yard field goal by Juan Lawson just before the half ended… The score was still 9-0 going into 4th quarter where the Red devils exploded for 22 points… Shy Kinard scored on a 4 yard run, Darian Bailey on a 15 yard run and Sanders closed out the scoring with a 2 yard TD run…. Lawson also had two PATs in the fourth quarter…  Clinton had 401 yards in total offense (333 rushing) to Powdersville 156…For the complete stat package of the game including a play-by-play accounting of the game, click hereThe Red Devils travel to Wren this Friday night to take on the Golden Hurricanes

 

 

LDHS: Raiders

  • Hillcrest 23 – Laurens 6… In a game that really was closer than the score looked the Rams took a 23-6 win over the Laurens Raiders… The score was 10-0 at the half and the Raiders came out in the third quarter and scored the first time they had the ball on a 19 yard TD run by Jordan Woodruff to make it 10-6… After that they played equal except for a 27 yard pick six by the Rams and a 77 yard blocked field goal returned by the Rams for a 77 yard TD… The Rams only had 7 yards more of total offense that the Raiders (290-283) with most of theirs coming on the ground (216) while most of the Raiders came through the air (225)… Duane Martin led the Raiders on the ground with 51 punishing yards and also on defense sticking it to the Rams often on defense… For the complete stat package of the game including a play-by-play accounting of the game, click here… The Raiders will open region play this week as they travel to Wade Hampton to take on the Generals.

 

 

Laurens Academy

  • St John’s 58 – Laurens Academy 30… The St John’s Cavaliers jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter before the Crusaders could get on the board and then went on to take a  58-30 win over the Crusaders…Thomas Lowry had  3 TD passes all to Cal Robertson… Robertson caught scoring passes of 46, 73 and 29 yards…. Lowry also had 3 yard TD run and added the 2-point conversion… Diamonte Grant also caught 2 two-point conversions…. To see more Crusader statistics on the game, click here… The Crusaders travel to W. Braves… The Braves were in Washington, DC for a three game-series with the Nationals.

  • Friday: Braves 5 – Nationals 0… The Braves started the series on Friday night with a 5-0 win over the Nationals… The Braves bas generated 12 hits while 4 Braves pitchers held the nationals to just 3 hits… Ozzie Albies hit his 23rd homerun of the season in the 7th inning.
  • Saturday: Braves 10 – Nationals 1… ON Saturday the Braves clinched at least a wild-card spot in the playoffs by taking a 10-1 win over the Nationals…. Again the Braves bats were hot as they pounded out 14 hits whole the Braves pitchers allowed only 6 National hits… The Braves had no homers but were led by Nick Markakis who went 4 for 5 and Ozzie Albies who went 3 for 4.
  • Sunday: Nationals 7 – Braves 0… Yesterday the National avoided being swept by the Braves by taking a 7-0 win… The Braves mostly gave the bats the night off as they had only 4 hits to the Nationals 10… The Braves are now 93-58 on the season and in first place in the NL East 9.5 games ahead of the Nationals who are second… They have tonight off and come home Tuesday to start a 3-game series with the Phillies.

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday at noon out at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Headquarters on Exchange Drive…. If you would like to see the entire schedule and information on how to join the club, click here.

Youth Soccer at Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open at the Clinton Family YMCA for Youth Soccer for youth ages 3-12 divided into 3 appropriate age groupings (3-5, 6-8 & 9-12)… The cost is $55 for YMCA members and $75 for non-members… The YMCA will not deny anyone the opportunity to participate in its

 Run Hog Wild… The Laurens Family YMCA in conjunction with Self Regional Healthcare and Piedmont Orthopedic Associates of the Lakelands will be holding a 1 mile run on October 5, 2019 starting at 9 am…  Proceeds will help the children of our community by going to the Laurens City Police for their Christmas in the City program and for the YMCA Youth Scholarship program… The cost is $15 if you don’t want a T-shirt and $25 if you do…  Registration the day of the race will start at 8 am at Laurens Middle School which is where the race will start… You can register at wwwlakelandsymva.org/programs….
