Sports Report for Tuesday, 9-17-2019

PC Notes

  • Jacksonville 30 – PC 20… Last Saturday night the Blue Hose football team carried a 13-10 lead into the fourth quarter at Bailey Memorial Stadium but could not hold it as the Jacksonville Dolphins outscored them in the final quarter 20-7 to take a 30-20 win over the Blue Hose… The Dolphins had 316 yards of total offense to PC’s 206 with Jarius Jeter getting 106 yards rushing to lead PC’s ground attack…. CHS Red Devils:

Cross Country… The Red Devil cross country teams competed in the Eye Opener Meet at Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg on Saturday…. This is a big meet that draws runners and teams from not only South Carolina but adjacent states… There were over 2700 runners total who took part in the meet

  • Boys Finish 37th… Clinton finished 37th out of 63 teams in the Boys Championship Race. The JV Boys finished 38th out of 56 teams. The Championship Race had 540 runners, Clinton’s top runner was Zac Bagwell who finished 179th with a time of 19:28… To see how other varsity and JV runners for the Red Devils, click here.
  • Girls Finish 43rdClinton finished 43rd out of 52 teams in the Girls Championship Race…. The top runner for the Red Devils was Dorothy Trent who finished 125th with a time of 23:01… To see how other Red Devil runners did, click here.

 

 

LDHS: Raiders

  • Duane Martin Makes Shrine Bowl Roster… The 83rd Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas will be played December 21st in Spartanburg and Raider Senior Duane Martin has been chosen as a South Carolina team member in this annual charity game for the Shriners to play against a team from North Carolina in Spartanburg… Duane is listed as in inside linebacker for the team but as Raider fans know he can also run with the ball and that is most likely what the Louisville commit will do when he gets to college… If you would like to see all those chosen to play on the South Carolina team, click here… If you are interested in the North Carolina roster, click here… To learn more about the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas in general, click here.
  • Cross Country Participates in Eye Opener… The Raider cross country team also participated in the Eye Opener Meet in Spartanburg on Saturday… The boys finished 48th while the girls finished 46th… The boys were led by Luis Rios-Brenna with a personal record of 18:48… The Lady Raiders were led my Joey Sward who finished the course in 23:59… Now for a little more information on how other Raiders did at the meet, click here.

 

 

Laurens Academy

  • Volleyball: LA 3 – Greenwood Christian 2… The Laurens Academy Crusaders hosted the Greenwood Christian Academy Hawks last night and the varsity match was a wild and wooly one but the Crusaders defeated he Hawks 3-2… The Hawks took the first set 27-25 but the Crusaders came right back and took the second set by a score 27-15… The Hawks did not roll over as they took the third set 27-25 but once again the Crusaders came back and took set four by a score of 25-17… That forced a fifth and deciding set which the Crusader’s took by a score of 15-8 thus improving their season record to 3-5 on the season.
  • MS: LA 2 – Hawks 0… Prior to the varsity match the middle school volleyball team ran their record to 7-1 on the season by taking a 2-0 win over the Hawks… The teams are scheduled to travel to Cambridge Academy tonight.

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday at noon out at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Headquarters on Exchange Drive…. If you would like to see the entire schedule and information on how to join the club, click here.

Youth Soccer at Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open at the Clinton Family YMCA for Youth Soccer for youth ages 3-12 divided into 3 appropriate age groupings (3-5, 6-8 & 9-12)… The cost is $55 for YMCA members and $75 for non-members… The YMCA will not deny anyone the opportunity to participate in its youth sports activities…. Interested participants are encouraged to register well before the Monday, September 23rd deadline… For additional information and interest call the Clinton YMCA at 833-1555…. Run Hog Wild… The Laurens Family YMCA in conjunction with Self Regional Healthcare and Piedmont Orthopedic Associates of the Lakelands will be holding a 1 mile run on October 5, 2019 starting at 9 am…  Proceeds will help the children of our community by going to the Laurens City Police for their Christmas in the City program and for the YMCA Youth Scholarship program… The cost is $15 if you don’t want a T-shirt and $25 if you do…  Registration the day of the race will start at 8 am at Laurens Middle School which is where the race will start… You can register at wwwlakelandsymva.org/programs….
