Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • JV Football: Clinton 40 – Union County 28… The Red Devil JV football team took a ride over to Union last night and I imagine the ride back seemed a little shorter than the one going over as they took a 40-28 win over the Yellow Jackets… The Red Devils were led by Bryson James who had a pair of rushing TDs… Zae Cook and Jishon Copeland each had a rushing TD… Wilson Wage also had a 65 yard TD pass to CJ Young… … Wages also caught a 10 yard TD pass from Austin Copeland… Afterwards Coach Glenn commented “Our guys prepared well and played their assignments well. I’m really proud of the effort and resilience our kids showed tonight, it was a great team win. Will continue to improve and get better… The Team is now 5-1 overall and 1-0 in region play.
  • Red Devils Start Region Play Tonight… Throw out the records to date as the Red Devils will host the 2-2 Yellow Jackets of Union County HS tonight at Wilder Stadium in the start of region play… Only the games from tonight on will determine if the Coach Corey Fountain and the Red Devils make it into the playoffs… Go Big Red!

LDHS Raiders:

  • JV Football: Laurens 21 – Westside 12… The Raider JV football team traveled over to Anderson to take on the Westside Rams last night… Good news for Raider fans as the Raiders came home with a 22-12 win… The Raider defense played a big part in the win as it had 4 interceptions on the night all by Cayson Elledge… By the way Elledge also had a 3-yard rushing TD… Gemire Darden also blocked a Ram PAT and Dale Hostetler picked up a Ram fumble and rumbled 55 yards for a TD… The other Raider TD came on a 4-yard run by James Rawl… Brian Sheffield kicked the PATs… The team improved its record to 4-1 on the season.
  • Raiders Host Westside Tonight… Of course the Raiders will be hosting Westside tonight at KC Hanna Stadium and you can catch all the action here on Real Radio 860 and 104.1 as well as on the internet at www.wlbg.com… Westside comes in a very deceptive 1-4 team that is better than the record sounds… The Raiders are of course 3-1 coming off the 21-7 win over Greenwood last Friday and would love to run their region record to 3-0.
  • Robotics Night This Friday at Westside Game… This Friday night the Laurens District 55 Athletic Department will be having its “First” Robotics Night at the Westside game… Robotics is a very popular and fast growing activity that involves games and competition that fits hand in hand with the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum which is growing by leaps and bounds and is in demand by industry as they move into the world of more computerized and robotics based production…. For more information about this event and robotics in general, click here.

Laurens Academy Crusaders:

  • Crusaders Hit the Road… The 2-2 Laurens Academy Crusaders hit the road tonight as they travel down to Clarendon Hall to take on the 4-0 Saints… If you listen to the Raider broadcast, we will try to keep you updated on the score there as some great Crusader fans text it to us… If you plan on traveling down the school’s address is 1140 S. Duke St., Summerton, SC 29148… Go Crusaders!!

Middle School Football:

  • CMS (8th Grade) 40 – Sanders 6… The CMS 8th grade Wildcats defeated the Sanders Yellow-Yellow Jackets 40-6 in a game that you could have heard here on Real Radio WLBG…The Wildcat offense scored just about every time they had the ball (and the defense got in on the act also) while Sanders struggled and could not shake the penalty bug… The score at the half was 28-6 with the Wildcats Malachi Anderson scoring on runs of 12 and 18 yards…. Bryce Young also had a TD run of 14 yards and completed a 48 yard TD pass to Zay Johnson… Sanders only score in the game occurred at the end of the first quarter as Kalvis Byrd Jr. returned a kickoff about 72 yards for a TD… In the second half the Wildcats Zane McClendon scored on a 1 yard run later scored on a 33 yard pick-six… CMS-8 goes to 4-0 on the season while Sanders drops to 0-3
  • Laurens MS 32 – Northside MS 8… While Sanders travelled to Clinton the LMS Tigers played a home game at KC Hanna Stadium yesterday as they delayed the start of the game due to heat and needed the lights… Good news here as the Tigers took a 32-8 win over the Northside MS Knights running their season record to 3-1… Now I don’t have all the details on the game but I can tell you that Hunter Nabors completed a 60 TD pass to Travaija Austin with KD Mosley adding the 2-point conversion and that TJ Sullivan had a big fumble recovery for the Tigers… The Tigers are scheduled to play at CMS-8 next week and we plan on brining you that game here on Real Radio WLBG
  • Dixie 32 – Gray Court-Owings 12… Also yesterday the GCO Tigers took on the Dixie Hornets and the Hornets had too much sting for the Tigers as they took a 32-12 win… Both of GCO’s scores were made by Terry Cunningham
  • Southside Christian 46 – Hickory Tavern 8… Now back on Tuesday the HT Panthers traveled up to the Greenville area tom take on Southside Christian Sabers… Tried to details on the game but all I could find out was that the Panthers fell by a score of 46-8.
  • Laurens Academy 48 – Newberry Academy 0… One last score,(and that is all I have is the score) the LA Crusaders traveled down to Newberry Academy and came home with a 48-0 win over the Eagles.
