Sports Report for Tuesday, 10-8-2019

PC Notes:

  • Campbell 28 – PC 14…  Sophomore running back Jarius Jeter put PC on the board first last Saturday up at Campbell on a 1 yard TD run but that would be the last time the Blue Hose led as Campbell scored 21 unanswered points in route to a 28-14 win over the Blue Hose… Jeter finished the day with a career-high 132 yards… Now for more on this game including a link to the game stats, click here…  PC will be on the road again this Saturday as they travel up to West Long Branch, N.J. for a 1:00 pm game with the Monmouth Hawks.

 

Local Notes: Catching up on some results from late last week

CHS Red Devils:

  • Tennis: Clinton 4 – Union County 2… Last Thursday the Lady Red Devil team traveled to Union to take on the Yellow Jackets… The team ran its record to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in region play as they defeated the Yellow Jackets 4-2… Mary Catherine Daily, Reese Gowan and Jerri Hill all took wins in singles action… Only the #2 doubles team composed of Kaitey Threatt and Gracie Johnson played and they defeated their opponents giving the Red Devils their fourth set win… Now for more details on this match, click here…. The team will be hosting Mid-Carolina this afternoon starting at 5:00 pm on the courts at Clinton MS.
  • Volleyball: Union 3 – Clinton 0…  The Red Devil volleyball squads also made the trip to Union last Thursday and the news is not as good as Union took a 3-0 win in varsity action… Set scores were 25-21, 25-17 and 25-12… JV: Union 2 – Clinton… In JV action prior to the varsity match, the Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 win… Set scores were a close 25-21 and 25-23… The teams will be back in action today as they host the Mid-Carolina Rebels starting with JV action at 5:30.
  • Cross Country… Also on Thursday the cross country teams traveled over to Palmetto HS for the Palmetto Invitational… Boys Finish Third…  The boys squad finished third out of 12 teams present form all different SCHSL classifications…  Nick Perkins led the Red Devils finishing 21st with a time of 20:16… To see how the top 6 other Red Devil runners did and the how the JV boys did (they finished first), click hereGirls Finish Seventh… The girls were also in action at the Palmetto Invitational and they finished seventh… Elizabeth Reid finished 32nd to lead the Red Devils with a time of 26:46… To see how other Red Devil runners did, click here.  The teams travel to Emerald today for another meet.

 

LDHS Raiders:

  • Tennis: Laurens 6 – Westside 1… The Lady Raider tennis team hosted the Westside Rams last Thursday night and there is good news for Raider fans as the team defeated the Rams 6-1… Abby Davis, Anna Jenkins, Bella Youssef, McKenzie Little and Kelsie Little all took wins in singles action… Davis and Jenkins teamed up to form the #1 doubles team and they also defeated their opponents… Now for details on this match and comments from Coach Youmans click here… The team travels to Woodmont today.
  • Volleyball: Wade Hampton 3 – Laurens 0… Also last Thursday the volleyball teams hosted the Wade Hampton Generals… The Generals won the varsity match 3-0… Set scores were 25-10, 25-10 and 25-22 with the Raiders fighting hard in that third set… Aubrey Wardell had nine digs for the Raiders… JV: Wade Hampton 2 – Laurens 0… In JV action the Raiders lost 2-0 but they fought hard as the set scores were 25-20 and 25-21

 

Laurens Academy Crusaders:

  • Volleyball: Newberry 3 – Crusaders 0…. I need to do some catching up with the Crusader volleyball teams as they traveled down to Newberry last Thursday to take on the Newberry Academy Eagles… Unfortunately in varsity action the Eagles talons were a little too much for the Crusader as they defeated the Crusaders 3-0… Sorry no other details… MS: Crusaders 2 – Eagles 0…  Now the news is better where the middle school squad is concerned as they defeated the Eagles 2-0 to run their season record to 14-1.

  • St. Louis 5 – Braves 4… Last night the Braves and the cardinals battled to a 4-4 at the end of nine innings of play and the Cardinals scored the winning run on a one-out sacrifice fly by Yadier Molina in the bottom of the 10th inning to take the win… Ozzie Albies did have a 2-run homer for the Braves in the 5th inning… The series is now tied 2-2 and the winner take all fifth game will be in Atlanta tomorrow starting at 5:00 pm and can be seen on TBS.
  • Post season Schedule…. Laurens County TD Club

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday at noon out at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Headquarters on Exchange Drive…. If you would like to see the entire schedule and information on how to join the club, click here.

Pickleball at the Clinton YMCA… The Clinton Family YMCA is going to have an official Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening to dedicate the two new outdoor Pickleball Courts at the YMCA Tennis Center…The official ribbon cutting will be Tuesday, October 8th at 9:30 am on the Pickleball Courts site…The Pickleball courts were made available by a generous gift from The Bailey Foundation…The Pickleball Courts will be dedicated at 9:30 am and the YMCA will have a demonstration and clinic at 9:45 am – 11 am so all should come dressed and ready to join us for the official ceremony and clinic…The YMCA will announce additional clinics on that date as well…For more about pickleball, click here.
