Teen Dies Following Wreck on Indian Mound Road

A Western Laurens County teen died Tuesday afternoon in a single vehicle wreck.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper David Jones said the fatal crash occurred at 5:23 Tuesday afternoon on Indian Mound Road, just east of Elmore Road. Jones said a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer was eastbound on Indian Mound Road when it ran off the right side of the road. He said the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to then run off the left side of the road and overturn several times, throwing him from the Chevy.

Laurens County Chief Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek today identified the deceased as 17-year-old Timothy Sondles of Poplar Springs Road, Ware Shoals. Mrs. Cheek said Timothy Sondles was airlifted to Prisma Health, but later died from blunt force injuries to the head and chest. He was pronounced dead as of 7:03 Tuesday evening.

The wreck remained under investigation of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Trooper Jones noted the deceased was not wearing a seat belt.

Prior to Tuesday’s fatality, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s statistics indicated 16 traffic fatalities for 2019 here in Laurens County, as of October 6th, compared with 28 traffic deaths as of the same date in 2018.
