LDHS Raiders:

  • Laurens 28 – Woodmont 24CAUTION… Discretion should be used for those attending a Laurens Raider football game for those who have certain medical conditions including but not limited to cardiac problems, those with certain neurological conditions that would cause them to be subject fainting, anxiety in stressful situations and nail biting… The reason I say that is that for the second time in as many weeks the Raiders took a come-from behind 28-24 win this time over the Woodmont Wildcats at Woodmont… The Raiders scored with 15 seconds left in the game when Ryan Campbell connected with Dee Foster in the back left corner of the end zone on a 7 yard pass play for the winning score… The game was a classic smash-mouth contest like two heavy weight fighter going at each other and the Wildcats did manage to move the ball Laurens 20 in those 15 seconds and the Raiders could not celebrate until a Wildcat pass went over the head of the intended receiver in the end zone as time ran out… Woodmont scored at the end of their first possession of the game to go up 7-0…The Raiders responded by going 85 yards on the ensuing possession with Duane martin scoring from 5 yards out… Jesus Esparaza’s PAT tied the game 7-7 with 1:46 left in the first quarter… The Wildcats scored next with 3:20 left in the half on a 32 yard field goal to make it 10-7 Wildcats… The Raiders responded by going 68 yards and taking the lead when Ryan Campbell kept the ball and scored from 9 yards out… Esparaza’s PAT made it 14-10 and that was the score as the teams went to the locker room at the half… Woodmont took the opening kickoff of the second half and drove down the field to score and make it 17-14 Wildcats… The Raiders would score next with 6:35 left in the game when Campbell scored from 1 yard out and with the PAT the Raiders went back ahead 21-17… Woodmont being the tough team that they are came right back down the field and scored with 4:21 left in the game to retake the lead 24-21… That set the stage for the Raiders to go 68 yards scoring on Foster’s TD catch and Woodmont’s last second attempts… If you missed this game you missed one of the best high school football games I have seen in a while!
  • Stats & More… Woodmont had 346 yards of total offense to the Raiders’ 314 and they had 289 of their yards rushing to the Raiders’ 235… Duane martin led the Raiders with 145 yards rushing… Neither team had a turnover and the Wildcats led in possession time having the ball 27:47 to the Raiders 20:13… To see the entire stat package for the game, click hereWith the win the Raiders move to 5-1 on the season but more importantly they improve to 4-0 in the region and are the only undefeated team in the region with three games left to play… The Raiders will host JL Mann this Friday night for Homecoming… There will be a homecoming parade today on West Main starting at 6:00 pm working its way down Main Street and around behind the court house on the square.

Laurens Academy Crusaders:

  • Richard Winn 52 – Laurens Academy 20… The Crusaders traveled to Richard Winn Friday to take on the Eagles… The news is not good for Crusader fans as they were the only county team to lose Friday night as the Eagles took a 52-20 win… The Eagles scored 15 point before the Crusaders got on the board with 8:59 left in the half on a 45 pass from Thomas Lowry to Clarence Bertoli to make the score 15-6… Richard Winn scored again and the Crusaders found the end zone one more time before the half as Lowry connected with Diamonte Grant on a 3 yard pass for the score 23-12… The eagles scored once more to make the score 30-12 at the half… The Crusaders did manage to strike pay dirt one more time with 2:41 left in the game when Lowry connected with Caio Rita on a 30 yard pass and then found Bertoli in the end zone for the two-point conversion to make the final score 52-20.
