Sports Report for Tuesday, 10-15-2019

PC Notes:

  • Monmouth 45 – PC 0… The Blue Hose football team traveled up to West Long Branch, N.J. last Saturday to take on the Monmouth Hawks… Monmouth scored 21 points in the first quarter and then went on to take a 45-0 win over the Blue Hose… As you would expect Monmouth dominated just about every statistical category amassing 458 yards of total offense to PC’s 136… To see more information about this game, click here… Presbyterian returns to Bailey Memorial Stadium this Saturday for a 2:30 pm Homecoming game against Kennesaw State which can be seen on ESPN+.

 

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • Tennis: Clinton 5 – Newberry 1… Last Thursday the Lady Red Devil tennis team traveled down to Newberry to take on the Bulldogs and good news to report as the Red Devils took a 6-1 win over the Bulldogs… Mary Catherine Dailey, Gracie Spangler, Reese Gowan and Jerri Hill all took wins in singles action… Kaitey Threatt and Grace Johnson teamed up to play as the #2 doubles team and they also defeated their opponents on the court… For more information on this match, click here… The Red Devils improve to 9-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in region play.
  • Volleyball: Clinton 3 – Newberry 2… The Red Devil volleyball teams also made the trip down to Newberry last Friday and there is good news to report her also as the varsity squad took a hard fought 3-2 win over the Bulldogs… The Red Devils dropped the first two sets to the Bulldogs by scores of 11-25 and 21-25… The Red Devils dug in deep and rebounded to take the next three sets by scores of 26-24, 27-25 and 17-15 to win the match.
  • JV Volleyball: Clinton 2 – Newberry 0… Now not only did the varsity take a win over the Bulldogs and the JV did the same as they on 2-0… Set scores were 25-23 and 25-19.
  • Boys Cross Country… The boys cross country team was in action this past Saturday as they traveled to Camden to participate in the Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic that was held at Carolina Cup in Camden… There were over 80 schools and 300 athletes present for mostly 5A and 4A schools and the Red Devils finished 37th in the International Boys Division… The top runner for the Red Devils was Zac Bagwell who ran the course in 19:27… To see more information on how the other Red Devil runners did including JV runners, click here
  • Girls Cross Country… The Lady Red Devil cross country team also participated in the same meet and all I can tell you is that they finished 41st and I don’t have any other details.

 

LDHS Raiders:

  • Volleyball: Laurens 3 – Westside 2… The Raider volleyball teams closed out their season last Thursday night as they hosted the Westside Rams on Senior Night… There is good news to report here as the Raiders took a 3-2 win… The Raiders won the first set by a score of 25-17 but the Rams came back to take the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 26-24… Wanting to send the seniors out with a win, the Raiders took the next two sets by scores of 25-21 and 15-11… Now for more information on this match, a photo and comments from Coach Lake, click here.
  • JV Volleyball: Westside 2 – Laurens 0… Now in action prior to the varsity match the news is not as good as the JV squad lost to the Rams by a score of 2-0… The Raiders fought hard and lost this close match by set scores of 25-23 and 28-26… Again for more details on the match, click here.

 

Laurens Academy Crusaders:

  • Volleyball Sweeps Richard Winn… Now the Laurens Academy volleyball teams traveled to Richard Winn last Thursday night and I don’t have any details other than the final scores but they are good… The JV squad took a 2-0 win over the Eagles to run their record to 15-1 on the season while the varsity took a 3-1 win to even their season record at 8-8 on the season… The same two teams will meet this afternoon out at Laurens Academy.

Laurens County TD Club

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday at noon out at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Headquarters on Exchange Drive…. If you would like to see the entire schedule and information on how to join the club, click here.

Youth Appreciation Night at KC Hanna Stadium… Laurens District 55 High School football team is hosting Youth Appreciation Night Friday, October 25, 2019, before the Raiders football game against TL Hanna at KC Hanna Stadium… All youth and youth coaches wearing a jersey or cheer uniform from the City of Laurens Recreation League, or the YMCA Recreation League will be admitted free into the game… For more information about this including what gates to enter and parent tickets, click here.

 

 Boo in the Park… The City of Laurens and PRTC are once again this year sponsoring Boo in the Park to be held October 31st at the Laurens Amphitheater… This is a free event that is an alternative to Trick or Treating in a safe environment… There will be a costume contest and a movie…Age limits to participate in the trick or treating and the costume contest are youth 10 and under.

 

Raider Softball Chicken Stew Fund Raiser… The Laurens Raider softball team is selling chicken stew to help raise funds for equipment travel and other expenses that are not fully covered by district funds… The stew will be cooked on Friday, November 1 and will be ready for pick up the next day (Saturday, November 2)… The stew will be $8 per quart and to order yours see any member of the Raider softball team either varsity or JV players… You can also contact Coach Smith to order your stew… Her email address is: mesmith@laurens55.org… Don’t wait too long to order you stew, I already have!

 

 Laurens County Chamber of Commerce College Football Fan Challenge Oyster Roast… Go ahead and mark your calendar for Thursday, November 7th because that is when the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce will be holding the 2019 version of their College Fan Oyster Roast… As in the past the menu will include steamed oysters, low country boil chicken gumbo and various liquid refreshments… There will also be college football celebrities there and they will be conducting both live and silent auctions… The gates will open out at the chamber offices at 5:00 pm and food will be served at 6:00 pm… The tickets are $40 each and to purchase tickets or for more information on this event, call Marlene Owings at the chamber at 833-2716 or contact her via email at: informationowings@laurensounty.org… See you there!
