CHS Red Devils:

  • JV Football: Clinton 22 – Newberry 6…  The Red Devil JV football team traveled to Newberry last night to take on the Bulldogs and there is good news to report as Clinton took a 22-6 win over the Bulldogs… Austin Copeland connected with Wilson Wages for 2 passing TDs one of 40 yards and the other for 8 yards… Justin Copeland also had a 1 yard rushing TD… Afterwards Coach Glenn commented “Our kids didn’t play well in the first half but we regrouped and came out in the second half and played much better. Credit goes to the defense for playing a great game and making goal line stands. We will improve from our mistakes and get better to finish these last two weeks”… The team improves their season record to 7-1 overall and 3-0 against region opponents.

LDHS Raiders:

  • JV Football: Laurens 37 – JL Mann 0… The Raider JV football team was also on the road last night as they traveled to JL Mann to take on the Patriots… Good news here also as they took a 37-0 win over the Patriots… The Raiders first score came on a 3 yard run by Cayson Elledge in the first quarter but the PAT failed… The Raiders scored again in the first quarter on a 58 yard punt return by Jay Pulley and the Raiders did convert on a 2-point pass to make the score 14-0… The next Raider score came in the second quarter on a 25 yard run by Gemere Darden and Brian Sheffield added the PAT to make it 21-0… The Raiders scored again before the half on a 35 yard TD pass from James Rawl to C. Middle School Football:

  • Laurens MS 6 – Westview MS 0… The LMS Tiger traveled to Greenwood to take on the Westview MS Titans and it was a low scoring affair that the Tigers won 6-0… The Tigers score came in the second quarter when KD Mosley broke loose on an 80 yards TD run… Braylen Jones had a 35 yard pass reception form Josh Goodwin to get the Tigers close but could not get the ball all the way in for the score… Jasiah Williams picked off a Titan pass in the fourth quarter to help preserve the win… The Tiger are now 4-2 on the season and will travel to Brewer next Thursday.
  • Northside 58 – Sanders 0… The Sanders Yellow Jackets hosted the Northside Knights last night and unfortunately Northside was just too strong as they took a 58-0 win… Sanders will host Westview next Wednesday.
  • Brewer 28 – Clinton (8th grade) 20… The CMS 8th grade football team hosted the Brewer Bulldogs last night at Wilder Stadium and for the first time this season the Wildcats lost as the Bulldogs took a hard fought 28-20 win… The Wildcats took an early 6-0 lead when Bryce Young connected with Keston Pyles on a TD pass but the PAT failed making it 6-0 Wildcats… After losing the lead the Wildcats managed two more touchdowns one on a 60 yard TD pass from Kaiden Crawford to Zay Johnson and the other a 30 yard TD pass from Bryce Young to Johnson… Malachi Anderson did have a 2-point conversion after Clinton’s second TD… Afterwards Coach Caughman had this to say “ It was a tough one tonight. Our kids battled from the first snap to the final whistle. We always talk about 3 things before every game… Play Hard, Play Smart and Have Fun. I feel like our kids played hard tonight throughout the game. We did not tackle particularly well tonight and that hurt us, but give Brewer credit. Brewer ran hard and they pushed us around a little bit… We played well on offense in the first half but we hurt ourselves in the second half by not making plays when they were there and committing some costly penalties. We have a short week next week so we need to bounce back and get ready for a good Northside team.”… The Wildcats are now 5-1 on the season
  • Ewing 38 – Clinton (7th grade 0)… Prior to the 8th grade game, the 7th grade Wildcats hosted the Ewing MS eagles out of Gaffney… I hate to have to report that they came up on the wrong side of a 38-0 score.
  • Greenwood Christian 38 – Laurens Academy MS 8… No details available.
  • Hickory Tavern 44 – Gray Court Owings 30… The GCO Tigers traveled to HT to take on the Panthers yesterday in a game that you could have heard here on Real Radio WLBG… As usual, these two rivals played hard but when the final horn had sounded, the Panthers had taken a 44-30 win over the Tigers… The Panthers took the opening drive 53 yards and scored on a 33 yard run by Nick Fowler with Maddox Holtzclaw adding the 2-point conversion on a run… They scored on their next possession on a 32 yard run by N. Fowler with Holtzclaw again adding the 2-point conversion to make it 16-0 with 6:59 left in the half… The Tigers responded by going 51 yards and scoring with 3:36 left in the half on a 5 yard run by Terry Cunningham but the PAT failed…The Panthers struck quickly on their next possession scoring with 2:41 left in the half on a 4 yard run by Tylan Fowler that was set up when he rushed 52 yards to the GCO 6 only to be run down from behind by the Tigers Damien Nance who kept him from scoring… Holtzcaw’s 2-point conversion made it 24-6 which was the halftime score. The Panthers scored first in the second half on a 15 yard run by Tylan Fowler but the 2-point conversion failed… The Tigers responded by going 63 yards in only 2 plays and scored when Gonzalo Morales broke of a 61 yard TD run with 3:03 left in the third quarter… Jermaine Cheeks added the 2-point conversion on a run to make it 30-14 Panthers… The Panthers came right back and scored on a 17 yard run by Holtzclaw but the PAT failed and the score stood 36-14 with 6:33 left in the game… It took almost no time for the Tigers to respond as Terry Cunningham hit Damien Nance on a 65 yard scoring strike on the first play from scrimmage on the Tigers next possession and with Cunningham adding the 2-point PAT on a run the Tigers cut the Panther lead to 36-22… The Panthers responded to that by going 51 yards in in 5 plays and scoring on a 7 yard run by Nick Fowler with Holtzclaw adding the Pat to make it 44-22 3:06 left in the game… The Tigers were not about to go quietly as on the ensuing kickoff Damien Nance rumbled 65 yards for the score and Morale added the 2-point conversion to make it 44-30 which was the final score.
