CHS Red Devils:

  • Clinton 28 – Emerald 14… The CHS Red Devils boarded the bus last Friday and traveled across Lake Greenwood to take on the Emerald Vikings looking for an important region win… Well they found it as they defeated the Vikings 28-14 and that coupled with Woodruffs 28-24 win over Mid-Carolina assured the Red Devils of a spot in the playoffs beginning next week…. After a scoreless first quarter the Red Devils took a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter when Jykorie Gary capped a 67 yard drive with a 5 yard TD run and Juan Lawson added the PAT…. The Red Devils scored again with 2:51 left in the half when Shy Kinard carried it in form 1 yard out ending a 69 yard drive and Lawson’s PAT made it 14-0… With 1:41 left in the half the Red Devils muffed a punt and the Vikings recovered at the Clinton 11 yard line and 3 plays later scored making it 14-7 Red Devil just before the half ended… Kimon Quarles scored next for the Red Devils with 5:02 left in the third quarter when he carries it in from 4 yards out and again Lawson’s PAT was good making it 21-7… Emerald cut Clinton’s lead to 21-14 as they scored on a 10 yard pass with 3:57 left in the game… On the next possession the Red Devils did recover an on-side kink and did pick up a first down but the drive stalled at the Viking’s 40 yard line and Davis Wilson pinned the Vikings back at their own 12 yard line with a well-placed punt… On the Vikings first play from scrimmage, CJ Vance intercepted a Viking pass and carried it to the house for a 23 yard pick-six and with Lawson’s PAT the score was 28-14

  • Laurens 33 – TL Hanna 23… The Laurens Raiders knew coming into their game last Friday night with TL Hanna at KC Hanna that a win would give them the Region I-AAAAA Championship no matter what happens this week at Easley… Well the Raiders took care of business as they defeated the Yellow Jackets 33-23… Hanna got on the board first with 5:02 left in the first quarter but missed the PAT to make it 6-0… The Raiders finally got on the scoreboard with 7:38 left in the first half when Duane Martin carried it in from 4 yards out capping a 32 yard drive that was set up when Hanna shanked a punt… The PAT was missed so the score was tied 6-6… Hanna got a 40 yard kickoff return on the ensuing kickoff and returned it to the ra8ider 39 yard line… The moved the ball to the Raider 10 yard line but the defense stiffened and they had to settle for a 23 yard field goal with 1:40 left in the half which  made it 9-6 Hanna… On the first play from scrimmage after the kickoff, Ryan Campbell hit Dee Foster for a 52 yard pass completion and Foster’s catch was a “highlight reel” catch as he tipped up in the air 3 times before hauling it in… A few plays later Zy Todd leaped over the pile on the goal line to score from 2 yards out and the PAT failed making it 12-9 Raiders which is the score at halftime… The Raiders scored at the end of their first possession of the second half when Duane Martin carried it in from 1 yard out and Jesus Esparaza added the PAT to make it 19-9 Raiders…  Laurens scored again with 8:43 left in the game when Duane Martin scored his third TD of the game from 4 yards out capping a 75 yard drive… With Esparza’s Pat the score stood 26-9… On their next possession the Yellow Jackets broke off a long run and with the PAT made it 26-6 with 6:50 in the game… Later in the quarter Hanna fumbled at their own 20 yard line and Bravian Williams recovered it for the Raiders… A few plays later Ryan Campbell hit Quin Patterson in the back corner of the end zone for 17 yard score and the PAT made it 33-16… Hanna would score once more with 1:06 left on the clock to make it 33-23 and attempt an on-side kick which Mark McGowan covered at the Raider 49 and after two “Victory Kneels” the celebration was on.
