Sports Report for Wednesday, 11-6-2019

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • Tennis: Chapman 5 – Clinton 1… Yesterday I told you that on Monday the Lady red Devil tennis team saw their season come to an end as they lost in the upper state finals to Chapman at Chapman by a score of 5-1… I also told you that as of the tome I published yesterday’s sports report that I did not have any details on that match other than the final score… Details of that match are now available and I can tell you that Mary Catherine Dailey took the lone win for the Red Devils as the #1 singles player defeating her opponent but it took 3 sets to do it… Jerri Hill came close to taking a win but she fell to her opponent in 3 sets…For more information on this match, click here…. Again congratulations to Coach Simmons and the team on a great season that saw them go 16-3 overall and 10-0 in region play taking the Region III-AAA Championship.
  • Information Concerning Friday’s Playoff Game at Camden… School District 56 has released some information concerning the Red Devil’s first round playoff game at Camden … By SCHSL rule, the admission will be $8:00 and only SCHSL issued passes will be accepted… They also want Red Devil fans to know that the visitor side is on the east side of Zemp Stadium and that you need to be sure to enter on that side because if you enter on the wrong side you cannot get to the proper side once inside the stadium… The information they released also contains directions to the stadium and where you should park… To see the complete press release that includes all this information and more, click here… Go Big Red!

LDHS Raiders:

  • Information Concerning Friday’s Playoff Game at Laurens… Well by now most of you know that the Laurens Raiders will be hosting the Blythewood Bengals this Friday night at KC Hanna Stadium… I’ll have more information about the Bengals later in the week… School District 55 wants me to remind you of certain things related to all playoff games that are different for the game due to SCHSL rules…. First admission will be $8.00… Further the only passes that will be accepted at the gate will be those issued by the SCHSL… Century Club, District ID, or any other passes will not be accepted and you must by a ticket to get into the game… However, Century Club reserved parking will be honoredIf you would like to avoid the line at the ticket booth this Friday you can purchase your tickets online… If you would like to do that, click here… There is a small convenience fee added to the price of the ticket but remember you can skip the line at the ticket both if you do this…. Also the district would like to remind you of the “Clear bag” procedure now in affect at all Raider athletic events… To see more about this click here…. Go Raiders

College Football Playoff Rankings:

  • The College Football Playoff Committee released its first version of the top 25 teams that would be considered for the 4 spots in the upcoming FBS Playoffs… If the season were to end today the top 4 teams that would be playing are Ohio State, LSU, Alabama and Penn State… The Clemson Tigers are ranked #5 and the Georgia Bulldogs #6 and as it stands now, they are the “first two teams out”… Tiger fans should not worry too much as we still have a few weeks to go before this gets “set in stone”… As a matter of fact after this weekend it will change as undefeated LSU and undefeated Alabama play each other which I would bet will cause the loser to drop… If you would like to see the top 25 as the committee sees it, click here.
