Sports Report for Tuesday, 11-12-2019

PC Notes:

  • PC 24 – Gardner-Webb 14… The Blue Hose football team scored a pair of TDs in the second half of their game with Garner-Webb last Saturday at Bailey Memorial Stadium while holding the Runnin Bulldogs scoreless to pick up their first win of the season by a score of 24-14… PC held the Bulldogs to just 35 yards rushing while picking up 129 yards of the ground themselves… Freshman quarterback Tyler Huff had ad 145 passing yards and a touchdown while rushing for 86 yards and a touchdown… For more information on this game, click here… The Blue Hose host Charleston Southern this Saturday at 1:00 pm.
  • Smyth Earns Big South Freshman of the Week… Presbyterian College defensive back Jeffrey Smyth has been named Big South Freshman of the Week following the Blue Hose 24-14 victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday, the conference office announced on Monday… Smyth had a career-high 13 tackles in the Blue Hose victory on Saturday over Gardner-Webb and an interception and was instrumental in stopping Bulldog drives… For more on this click here.

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • Boys Cross Country Qualifies for State Championship… The Red Devil cross country teams participated in the Upper State Qualifier down in Greenwood at the Connie Maxwell OASIS Farm and there is good news for Red Devil fans as the boys qualified for the upcoming State Meet by finishing 10th out of 18 schools there… James Anderson led the Red Devils by finishing 31st overall as he completes the course in 18:12… Nick Perkins was close behind finishing 34th in 18:13… To see not only how other Red Devil runners did but also how other schools at the meet finished as well as a photo of the Red Devils, click here.
  • Girls Cross Country Also Qualifies for State Championship… There is even more good news for Red Devil fans as the girls also qualified for the State Meet… They finished 11th overall and were led by Elizabeth Reid who finished 29th with a time of 21:28 which tied her personal best time… Now several other of the Lady Red Devils set personal best times at the meet and to see who they were, how other schools finished and a photo of the team, click here… The State Meet will be held this Saturday at the Carolina Cup course in Camden and I want to wish both teams Good Luck and Go Big Red!

College Sports

  • FBS: AP Poll…The latest AP FBS poll still has LSU as #1 and Ohio St as #2 followed by Clemson, Alabama and Georgia rounding out the top 5 in that order… Spots 6-10 are occupied by Oregon, Minnesota, Utah, Penn St. and Oklahoma in that order… To see the entire poll click here.
  • FCS: AP Poll… Now in the FCS AP Poll North Dakota State still continues to hold down the top spot… Furman checked in at #7 this week and Wofford #20… The two teams will be playing each other this Saturday at Wofford… To see the entire poll click here.

Laurens County TD Club

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday at noon out at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Headquarters on Exchange Drive…. If you would like to see the entire schedule and information on how to join the club, click here.
  • The next meeting is November 21st and in addition to the local high school coaches talking about their past and upcoming games, it will be the annual Carolina – Clemson day.

Raider Softball Chicken Stew Fund Raiser… The Laurens Raider softball team is selling chicken stew to help raise funds for equipment travel and other expenses that are not fully covered by district funds… The stew will be cooked on Friday, November 15 and will be ready for pick up the next day (Saturday, November 16) at the Hickory Tavern Fire department… The stew will be $8 per quart and to order yours see any member of the Raider softball team either varsity or JV players… You can also contact Coach Smith to order your stew… Her email address is: mesmith@laurens55.org… Don’t wait too long to order you stew, I already have!

 

 Youth Basketball at the Ridge… Youth basketball registration in now underway at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Headquarters on Exchange Drive… Youth basketball is for ages 7-12 and the cost is only $40… You can register daily at The Ridge from now until November 23rd…. If you have any questions call them at 681-7275.

 

Youth Basketball at the Laurens YMCA… Youth basketball registration is under way at the Laurens Family YMCA for youth 3-6… The cost is $40 and registration will close on January 12, 2020… You can register at the YMCA during normal operating hours and if you have any questions call them at 984-2621

 

Youth Basketball and Cheerleading at the Clinton YMCA… Registration is also open at the Clinton YMCA for both youth basketball and cheerleading… Youth basketball will be for youth ages 5-12 in 6 appropriate age groupings… Registration will close December 9th and the cost is $50 for Y members and $65 for non-members and financial help is available… Now for more information about this you can click here to open up document about youth basketball and cheerleading by the Y or call them at 833-1555… Register at the Clinton YMCA during normal business hours.

 

2019 Reindeer Run… The 2019 version of the Laurens YMCA Reindeer Run will take place on 12-14-19… The 5K race will start at 9:00 am and the Fun Run for ages 1-12 will start at 9:05… There is discount for early registration ($25) which will end November 22nd and will be $30 after that… There are also team discount available… You can register at the YMCA or online at: www.active.com… There is more information on the flyer for the event that you can see if you click here.
