Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • State Cross Country Meet Postponed… The weather caused the postponement of the SCHSL State Cross Country Meet in Camden last Saturday… The meet is no scheduled to take place tomorrow starting at noon… The Red Devil boys’ team will run at 12:35 pm and the girls will run at 2:20 pm… The meet will be held at the Carolina Cup Course and if you get a chance go on down and root them on… Go Big Red!

LDHS Raiders:

  • Byrnes 41 – Laurens 12… The Laurens Raiders took on the Byrnes Rebels in second round playoff action on a rainy night last Friday night… The Raiders won the coin toss and elected to defer until the second half giving the Rebels the ball first… The coin toss was the about the only thing the Raiders won as the Rebels Rahjai Harris scored on a 65 yard run on the first play from scrimmage and with the extra point the Rebels were up 7-0 with just 16 seconds off the clock… To add insult to injury the Rebels recovered an onside kick to really swing momentum their way… The Raider defense rose to the occasion and kept them out of the end zone with the Raiders taking over at their own 37…. After going 3 and out and punting the ball to the Rebel 16 yard line, the Rebels then went the 84 yards in 9 plays scoring to make it 14-0… The Raiders again went 3 and out but had the punt blocked with the Rebels getting the ball on the Raider 9 yard line and scoring on the first play to make it 21-0 Byrnes… With momentum clearly on the Rebels side they went on to take a 34-0 lead at the half… They scored again in the third quarter to make it 41-0 but the Raiders as true to character all season long did not stop fighting… In the fourth quarter the Raiders Duane Martin closed out his career with a pair of 10 yard TD runs but both extra points failed to make the final score 41-12.
  • Stats and More… The Rebels had a total 411 yards of offense 370 of which were on the ground… Their Shrine Bowl player Rahjai Harris ended the night with 266 yards rushing and 5 TDs… The Raiders finished the night with 236 yard of offense with 210 of them on the ground… Duane Martin led the Raider rushing attack with 96 yards and the 2 TDs… To see the entire stat package, click here…. Byrnes moves on to host the Gaffney Indians this Friday… The Raiders finish the season with a 10-2 record and won the Region I-AAAAA Championship with a 7-0 record… Congratulations to the Raiders on a great season!

Laurens Academy Crusaders: The Laurens Academy Crusader varsity basketball opened up their season on the road last Friday night taking on the Oakbrook Prep Knights

  • Girls: Knights 58 – Crusaders 24… The Lady Crusaders started their season off in an unfamiliar way as they lost to the Knights 58-24… The Crusaders stayed close in the first quarter as they only trailed 17-11 at its end and 24-11 at the half… However they were held to single digit scoring in each of the two remaining quarters as the Knights scored in double digits to pull away for the win… Blair Quarles had a game-high 18 points to lead the Crusaders in scoring… Olivia Huck scored 8 points while Regan Williamson and Payton Breen each scored 2 points….
  • Boys: Knights 85 – Crusaders 40… Sorry no scoring details on this game… Coach Plowden said they hung in their with the Knights for about 2,5 quarters before the Knights when the game got away from them… The Knights outscored the Crusaders 24-3 in the final quarter… The teams will be back in action Thursday when they travel to New Covenant in Williamson
