Take STEM, Add an “A” for Arts, and Get STEAM!

If you have had children in school during the past decade, chances are you’re familiar with the concept of S.T.E.M. – Science, technology, engineering, and math. Then someone introduced another element into the mixture and STEAM was developed. If you add an “A” for Art to STEM, you have STEAM. Last school year, the Laurens County Public Library’s Youth Services department prepared S.T.E.A.M. programs ahead of this year’s Summer Reading theme of “A Universe of Stories.” These programs were so popular, the Youth Services department wants to continue offering innovative S.T.E.A.M. programming for all ages.

The Laurens County Public Library System is presenting “STEAM for the Holidays.” This program by the Youth Services Department features 3D pen fun, lego design, robot car programming as well as holidays decorations with a S.T.E.A.M. twist. And, of course, there will be hot chocolate!

“ S.T.E.A.M. for the Holidays” will be held at Laurens Public Library Tuesday, December 10th at 6:00 pm and at the Clinton Public Library Tuesday, December 17th, also at 6:00 pm.

This in another of the programs the Laurens County Library Youth Services Division offers as part of their welcoming environment for children and their families. The library has resources on parenting for parents as well as grandparents who are raising grandchildren.
