Accident Claims Life of Teenage Girl

 

 

Laurens County sadly began December with an accident that resulted in the death of a teenage girl.

At approximately 3:30 AM on Sunday, December 1st, an accident on SC Highway 49 just south of Curry Road claimed the life of the driver and only occupant of a 2016 Nissan 4 door sedan according to Trooper James Miller of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Laurens County Deputy Coroner Patti Canupp identified the deceased as 18 year old Marisa Barragan of Sandy Springs Road near Laurens.  Trooper Miller told WLBG the vehicle was travelling north on SC 49 when it ran off the left side of the roadway  striking a guard rail and then a tree.  Ms. Barragan was not wearing a seat belt and was entrapped in the vehicle.

Laurens County Deputy Coroner Patti Canupp told WLBG the time of death was 3:30 AM.  The cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma to the head and body.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
