Wreck Fatalities Identified

The two women who died in the single-car crash near Owings last Friday morning have been identified. Laurens County Deputy Coroner Robin Morse yesterday said a positive identification was made Monday by a medical examiner in Greenville. Morse said the two victims of the crash were 70-year-old Sandra Bennett and 65-year-old Mary Godfrey, both of Fountain Inn.

The car the two women were traveling in had apparently been driven toward Fountain Inn on Highway 14. As the vehicle crossed over Interstate 385 to travel north onto the interstate, it apparently veered left past the bridge and into the northbound exit ramp. In the curve it ran off the road into a wooded area, crashed, overturned and burned.
