  • Coach of the Year… Laurens Raider football Coach Chris Liner was named the Coach of the Year… Liner who just completed his sixth year leading the Raiders led his team to a 10-2 record this year winning the Region I-AAAA Championship with a perfect 7-0 region record… The Raiders also won the region championship back in 2016 and Coach Liner was also coach of the year last year.
  • Player of the Year… There is also a repeat at player of the year as Laurens Raider Duane Martin won that honor again this year… Last year Duane rushed for 939 yards and 15 TDs on 161 carries while this year an early season knee injury and defensive duties kept hos rushing attempts down to just 103 carries and 712 yards with 14 TDs… He has 67 tackles to lead the Raider defense… Duane has also been selected to play as a linebacker in this year’s Shrine Bowl and is one of 7 finalists for the Mr. Football award in South Carolina and has committed play football at Louisville next year.

LDHS Raiders:

  • Freshman Boys: Hillcrest 49 – Laurens 41… Doing a little catching up on a score that came to me late on Tuesday, the Raider freshman basketball team traveled to Hillcrest Monday night in their first contest of the season… The news is not what I like to report to Raider fans as the Rams took a come from behind 49-41 win over the Raiders… The raiders led most of the game and actually led 39-30 at the start of the last quarter but the offense went cold as Hillcrest heated up outscoring the Raiders 19-2 in the final 8 minutes… Leading the raiders in scoring were Ty’Qua Johnson with 17 points and K.D. Mosley with 12 points… For more on this game click here.

Clinton Red Devils: Last night the Red Devils hosted the Ninety Six Wildcats in basketball action.

  • G: Red Devils 31 – Wildcats 15… The Lady Red Devils ran their record to 4-0 on the season as they took a 31-15 win over the Wildcats… At the half the score looked like something you would expect at a football game as the Red Devils led 16-8… The Red Devil defense was outstanding in the third quarter as they held the Wildcats scoreless while the offense scored 13 points as they pulled away for the win… The Red Devils were led in scoring by Taneal Evans who had a game-high 7 points… Others scoring for the Red Devils were Tinique Austin 6 points, Dana Kinard 5, De’Shanti Watts 5, Grayson Taylor 2, Seri9nity Baker 2, and Terriauna Bennett 2.
  • B: Wildcats 44 – Red Devils 37… The news is not as good where the boys are concerned as the offense wen as cold as ice in the fourth quarter scoring 0 points as the Red Devils fell 44-37… The Red Devils trailed 27-20 at the half but came out of the locker room on fire in the third quarter and outscored the Wildcats 17-3 to take a 37-30 lead into the final 8 minutes of play… But alas that is when the Clinton offense went AWOL as the Wildcats scored 14 points to take the win… Konnor Richardson was the only Red Devil scoring in double-digits as he finished with 11 points… Jalen Ruff scored 7 points, Davis Wilson 6, Darien Bailey & C.K. Vance 5 each and Kimon Quarles 3…. The Red Devil varsity teams will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Laurens to take on the Raiders in round 1 of the “County Championship”… Those games will not be broadcast on the radio due to scheduling conflicts.
  • JVG: Clinton 39 – Ninety Six 19… Now the JV teams also played the Wildcats yesterday before the varsity games and Coach Speaks did send me the results of the girls’ game and it is good news as the as the Red Devils took a 39-19 win… Asia Boyd led the Red Devils with 16 points and Anna Litzenberger chipped in 7… If you see the boys JV coach ask him to send me the results please.
