  • Raiders Host the BHP Bears… Now the Laurens Raiders will be hosting the bears of BHP in varsity action tonight at LDHS… The BHP boys’ team comes into tonight’s contest with a 5-8 record and the girls are 3-8 according to the best information I can find… We are planning on brining you those game here on Real Radio WLBG and streaming live at WLBG.com.

Pro Sports:

Sam Wyche Passes Away… Yesterday it was announced that former NFL player and coach Sam Wyche had passed away due to cancer… Sam played quarterback at Furman from 19963 to 1965 and played in the Continental Football League in 66 and 67 before joining the Cincinnati Bengals in 1968 and later played for the Washington redskins and Detroit Lions… After coach some college football he returned to the NFL as an assistant and head coach… He served as head coach for the Bengal and Tampa Bay Buccaneers… In the early and mid-2000’s he served as a volunteer coach for Pickens HS… In 2016 Sam received a heart transplant… For more information on his career I suggest you just google his name there are several places you can find it…. Local high school football fans may remember that back on 12-4-2019 he was the featured speaker at this past season’s Laurens County TD Club’s Annual Awards Banquet… If you would like to see the video of the banquet including his remarks, click here… You can also see it in a posting in the Featured Sports section on the WLBG homepage in a posting about the TD Club… Wyche was 74 and lived in Pickens.

NFL: The NFL regular season wound up this past weekend and the playoffs are starting this weekend so let’s do a little catching up

  • Panthers… The Panthers finished last in the NFC South with a 5-11 record… cam Newton was hurt most of the season but that might have been a good thing… Two weeks before the season ended the Panthers fired Ron Rivera their head coach since 2011 (a mistake???)…. He was named the new head coach of the Washington Deadskins (Redskins) this who finished with a worse record than the Panthers (3-13)… Look for them to improve.
  • Atlanta Falcons… The falcons finished the season 7-9 which earned them second place in the NFC South behind the New Orleans Saints but not good enough to make the playoffs… Sorry guys at the House of Pizza!
  • Final Standings… Now if you would like to see the final standings for the entire NFL, click here
